Saudade as they said is a very specific word in portuguese language. It relates to the void that something leaves behind when it goes away. We usually feel saudade for something that was good for us, or that holds such weight that you can almost feel like it was there. It can go quite deep in the game, as the whole lives of the characters change hardly after those events. Funny enough, the line "it ain't worth the pain of remembering" is quite a precise way to describe saudade. The pain of a memory, quite like a muscle sore. It's pleasurable but not in a conventional sense, but it's not bad per se. It's quite a complex emotion that this word describes perfectly. You can feel saudade for a house you lived in in your childhood. A former lover. A moment in your life. Quite commonly associated with nostalgia, but it's something a little beyond that. Most people feel this emotion in some moment of their lives and those who can't speak portuguese most of the time will feel frustrated not finding a way to describe it precisely. The lyrics can be analyzed very deeply in a poetic sense. "They're paved with memories of what the other half can be", for example, is a very powerful verse, in the sense that it describes something that is somewhat comprehensible, but still out of grasp, as well as what saudade is. It's this feeling of almost touching something. Like kissing wind, in a sense. This song has been instrumental in me winning over some traumas, as I bought the game a few days after I had a suicide attempt, and as a native portuguese speaker, this feeling of saudade for something I felt like I had, but can't quite put my finger on it was very well translated in this, and the song is a banger too.

saudade is latin for solitude, as in stuck or trapped. and judging by the story line of leon s kennedy, that night in 98', he moved on but his mind still haunts him of that day.

So, what does this song mean? According to Wiki, SAUDADE means: QUOTE: "Saudade is a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one cares for and/or loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again" Therefore, since this song plays at the beginning of Leon's A and B scenarios, is it a foreshadowing of his relationship with Claire? his relationship with Ada? A girlfriend (he breaks up with his GF in the original and got drunk the night before, and slept in a hotel room)? Women in general? Whereas Ada used him and even went so far as to steal a kiss from Leon on the tram to NEST, Claire made very obvious gogglely eyes at Leon when they were at the fence, and Sherry even picked up on Claire's vibes. Claire definitely has the hots for Leon, but Leon, the naive and idealistic cop, is oblivious to her subtle womanly wiles and is focused on the mission: escape Raccoon City alive. To be continued...

It wasn't until RE5-6 that they started making the game way to action oriented. They found out people didn't really care for that and wanted to go back to the original, which was dark and survival horror. I think your brain is just different than mine. Because there is notthing cheerful or anything like that about RE, fuck me.
