The good thing about Cody's promos is he references his real self as opposed to his character and gimmick. The problem comes though where a lot of his promos come across as very self important and conceited. I can forgive some of that self importance if it were his gimmick but it doesn't seem so. How many of those promos are his real feelings? Probably a lot. This is the first of his promos in a long time where it's tolerable. I'm damn impressed by it but there's a fair few wrestlers who have the gravitas and charisma to say a lot of things without shouting it for effect like Cody does.

I know alot of folks hate on Cody, but this is what I call putting your resume and your legacy on the table for a promo. He is 100% correct. He praises pro wrestling lore with the Punk promo, and alludes that to the connection to his bar bet with Meltzer, the All In PPV that changed the way wrestling fans saw pro wrestling, put the first serious crack into the McMahon Empire, and how the stars aligned with Cody, Kenny, The Bucks, and Tony Khan himself to create this beloved promotion that brought us out of the darkness and gave us back true professional wrestling. If it wasn't for them, we'd be subjected to lazy, lethargic, malaise, piss-poor creative decisions that exploded in a World War 2 historical fatal self-inflicted wound negative way last night for that Connecticut excuse of a business. For that, I will never boo this man, or the Elite, or Tony Khan, or AEW. They saved professional wrestling at a time when most of us gave up on this sport. That deserves our respect and our gratitude. They dont see us as minions, but as fellow pro wrestling fans. That is the difference right there folks. Say what you will, but I stand by my words and my stance. Here endeth the lesson!

_"I carried every ounce of anti-monopoly sentiment on my shoulders! I held every grain of the revolution in my hands! And each and every one of you cheered!"_ Without any context, you'd think this was a line from Macbeth or Caesar, or the diary of some mad dictator like Robespierre, Buonaparte, or Bolivar. Cody truly is the mad king on the verge of insanity. The way he went on and on about the achievements of AEW may sound like a rallying cry for all of the promotion's fans, but it can also be seen as the ramblings of a waning leader, defiantly holding on to his past glories. He talks of revolution, and yet like Robespierre and Bolivar, the revolution seems to be leaving him behind. He's drowning in all of his powers, his fame, and his hardships. Will he prove himself to be a man of quality, or befell the faith of many others before him, being consumed by the very people he once fought for? Wonderful soap opera bullshit and I love it. Edit: Also, he references Punk like a Stalin name-dropping his own Marx and Lenin. Rose-tinted glasses of simpler times for both his audience, and himself.
