I do my boards similar, but I use quick fuse for everything and find the last tube in the cake and cut a small hole in the cake right by that tube and tie off the fuse for the next cake from that one. That way the last tube in each cake lights the next one. More work but Perfect timing every time.

We used to do this years ago but instead of a foot apart it we did it about 6-8" apart. We also would have around 5-8 grand of fireworks. On that sheet we would have 8 or 9 cakes. We were insane lol but always a good time. Man i miss these days

Yes that was damn near perfect. I did the exact same thing about a week ago with six cakes. I ended up with some gaps so measuring is a way better idea. I don't mind a little bit of overlap but I don't want gaps. Thank you so much for posting this video.

@@ncvman the cakes were plenty close together it's the amount of fuse you're putting in between the cakes that matters. And knowing the approximate burn time for each cake. I've done shows since then that were damn near perfect.

Only way I do these smaller cakes I then take and put my board in a small dump trailer so that I can drive my show out to the area with the mower also with the 2ft sides on the trailer if one blows out its rather contained

Finally, someone who shows how to stage a cake board. I bought $500 worth and this will be my 1st backyard show. Also thanks MyFireworkDemos for the additional safety tips. I now feel safe and confident of a good show

If you want 20-30 seconds of dead time from each cake finishing to the next cake starting then go for it but that makes for a lame show. You don't want dead time between cakes Trust me. You want a nice tempo flow for your show

Cake boards are great. I cut mine down to 12x24 inches which holds 2 500 gram cakes perfect. It also allows a "one-man show" ease in humping the boards to shoot site plus prior storage. Number one rule, remove the paper on the bottom of your cakes to prevent the saturation of paper making it more likely to fall off or tear after setup.. Glue the bottom of the tubes and plugs to board.

Instead of using silicone (which is not actually glue) use construction adhesive. Also, if using boards with a glossy finish like that, scratch the surface with some sandpaper and clean before gluing .

When removing those cakes, how easily do the come off? And how much of the board gets buggered up? Or do you all not reuse your boards

I always lay out the cakes on plywood & then get a sharpie and hold the cake down. I then trace the perimeter of the cake so when I go to glue I know what exact are to glue in. I don’t waste any glue and it always sticks. Normally, I get a foot of fuse & time then I can plan from there. I normally try and find videos of the cake and time the cake, then figure out the spacing between then & I have a show. Just zip tie the fuses together ( I lie, to cut the access zip tie off to make it look nice) & you have a board. Similar to what you do but just a bit different. I’m planning on making a few boards then putting a module for them all. I can size back and fire my show!

If I wanted to fuse about 20/200g cakes together, have the cakes fused up and press together... would the fuse still burn if the cakes was pressed together? Like the fuse running in between the pressed cakes still burn? Hopefully you understand what I’m asking since I can’t show u.

I’m guessing you could use that same fusing technique. And then use an ignite system to ignite rather than hand light. Personally I’ve always hand lit my fireworks but i really like the idea of being able to sit back, push a button and each the show. I’m guessing i might try that sometime. I’ll fuse together a bunch of different racks, and cake boards and then just plug them into an ignite system and then many fire off my channels with phone.

Not sure why they call that fast fuse lol. That's the slowest fuse I use in my shows.

That's what I thought too. This is what is usually referred to as safety fuse, and it's slow. Quick fuse is about 0.5s per foot!

Liquid Nails and Gorilla Glue are a joke. Elmer's wood glue works just as well and sets up faster. Just don't use it on a board covered in a vinyl veneer.

The other videos on fusing cakes on KZbin usually cut the bottom of the cake open and fuse together the innards of the cake together. Does anyone know if the other method is more effective or safer to do than this one?

I have used your videos a great deal in the short time I have become engrossed in the world of fireworks. You may have a video that covers this already, but my inner math nerd has to ask just in case you don't. Have you ever created your boards using radial alignment instead of linear? It would require a great deal of fuse covering, but even with the burn variance of the added fuses, you would still have the potential for greater control in effects pairing with quick fuse extensions off of a main fuse that evenly splices the board. For the record, you obviously are a great teacher because I have learned this all from your videos in a matter of days. Keep up the great work!

If you're gluing them down you have to remove the plastic and paper wrap from the bottom, otherwise it's not really glued down, it's just a thin piece of paper or plastic wrap holding it.

Couldn't you put the cakes closer than one foot, and just loop one foot of fuse inbetween? or does that not work like that?

You could but you have to gage the time of the cake itself with the time of the fuse and how fast it burns

If you end up with loops etc have to be careful the burn doesn't take a short-cut!

I've watched about 10 others. This was the 3rd, but I came back to watch it again and will be my "goto" when building. Best overall explanation. I will apply the same methods as you but on a slightly larger scale. Should work the same as the science behind it supports that theory. Thanks for the additional info about fuses and timing on the different weights too. Very useful for maybe combining boards. I'm gonna see if you have another video! Thanks!

I had 2 cakes that didn't ignite, because I didn't put the zip ties on tight enough. Everything else went off as planned.

@@adolfmcduck1265 oh OK. I'll keep that in mind. I've always been concerned about using zip ties, because I was worried that when the main fues got to the zip tie, the zip tie would put it out.
