Im not a fan of RZ's H2 but Danielle Harris's character death is pretty emotional and the music and flashbacks of her as a young girl is well done. Funny how H1 has a very unwatchable 1st 20 minutes but H2 has one of the best 1st 20 minutes in the entire series.

I love Halloween 4's visuals: a worn down shed with crude decorations tacked on, a massive exposed barn that offers no shelter, sharp axes and tools against a chillingly cold whistle of wind as the sun sets. It made Haddonfiled truly feel like an isolated farmland suburb instead of generic America.

The plot of Halloween Ends should have been in Kills. Or at least parts of it. Have Michael survive H18, have him disappear and then bring in the Corey storyline and get it to play out as it did in Ends but replace Michael's death with either Allyson or Karen. Then, in the final movie, get the whole town to form two mobs; one led by Karen/Allyson and the other by Laurie. Wipe out the former, wipe out most of Laurie's and then have the final confrontation.

For those interested, B&B Theaters, at least here in Kansas City, has been showing horror on their Tuesday retro movie night all this month. Tonight is, Trick r Treat. But next Tuesday is the original HALLOWEEN. I've never seen it on the big screen. Showings are 4 and 7pm. If you live near a B&B theater maybe check it. Happy Halloween everyone!

Agree with your thoughts on ends alot. Halloween ends should have been focused on the story of michael and laurie leading up to the end of there story.. The movie we got should have been the movie after Halloween ends. Replace the third act with Corey taking up the mantle or Michael possessing Cory some how. Since the first 2 acts are seemingly building toward one of those outcomes. Then he can carry on and either terrorize the grand daughter or move on to someone else

Halloween 2007 yea it has its weakness but so does every other Halloween movie. Michael was his best in that movie very brutal and acting was top tier in that movie vs 1978 acting not so good. Me too. And I agree with you on the fact, that he should have split Halloween 6 for the ranking, since both cuts may look similar but are actually very different. The worst crime of the theatrical cut was them replacing 90% of the Halloween music for rock music. It just didn't fit a Halloween film. Also the PC doesn't focus on gore so hard and instead focuses more on the plot than the theatrical version. Even thoigh the fight at the end of the theatrical cut and the killing of the cult members is badass, I prefer the PC and it's (open) ending. I would set Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (PC) much higher than the theatrical cut of Curse.

I really like this tier list! The only personal opinion of mine that I would change is I would put Ends at the bottom. It had an interesting concept, but never fully explored it. If the kills were interesting then I would put it higher, but I felt everything in Ends was so forced.

When I was a kid my Grandfather showed me Season of the Witch. I didn't know it was the third installment of the Halloween Series at the time being a young young buck but I loved it! It wasn't until I got a bit older I realized it when some cable channel played a marathon of Halloween. I remember thinking" I can't wait to see Halloween 3 cause I have never seen it before". A gotcha moment occurred when the movie opened and i felt like a dummy. Lucky me though, I was able to watch the film again and I enjoyed it even more. Every Halloween I start the night with Season of the Witch before Halloween 1 and 2

Honestly, Halloween Ends should have been a spin-off that was set between Kills and the final movie in the trilogy. That way you properly set up Cody and he and Michael can team up in the last movie. Cody would die in the middle of the last movie and then you have a strong ending with Michael and Laurie. I loved the direction they went in, but they didn’t commit to it and gave a stale ending. It’s a mixed bag that I love and hate.

Halloween II is underappreciated. IMO it's the scariest. I like the introduction of the sibling storyline. It makes Meyer's make some sense! 5 is bad, but Resurrection is easily the worst and I dont even think its a contest. Also, glad you prop up 6. Among all the other things you mention that make it good, the script was just way to muddled. But I like that they tried to explain why Michael was the way he was using the original story line.

The mob-mentality idea actually works well in Halloween 4 with the rednecks. Loomis is forced to recruit them to hunt down Michael after he kills the entire police force and the sheriff has no choice but to let it happen, even though, it results in them drunkenly killing someone that they thought was Michael later on. The mob in Kills just felt like forced political commentary and took away from potential development we could've had with other characters like Allyson, or even more scenes set during the '78 night. Hell, I'd rather have a film set right after H1 in the new timeline (RIP Halloween II) where everyone is hunting down Michael and Haddonfield is freaking the fuck out over what happened. Make there be more of a connection between Laurie and the officer she chatted with in H2018 about Michael's return and what not.

The emphasis they placed on rednecks in Halloween 4 was a serious mistake. Same with the state police towards the end. Slasher movies thrive on a sense of intimacy and isolation. That is ruined when you flood the landscape with lots of miscellaneous characters.

Here’s my thing with the new Halloween trilogy Halloween ends should be first to watch deleted the Laurie and Michael fight at the end and the time jump then it should be Halloween kills so Michael is getting stronger and stronger then he disappears like Halloween ends for 4 years THEN Halloween 2018 where Laurie has been training for Michael to make his comeback add the final fight with them i feel like if they ever did that it would have made a big difference but that’s just my opinion what do you guys think?!

Rob Zombies Remake would have been better just having 2 acts, have the first half set in the asylum, have more time understanding the loomis and myers relationship. Then have the second half when Michael escapes znd goes back home. Nobody wanted to see myers as a boy brought up in an atmosphere that was gonna push him only 1 way. We didn't need a reason why he's a maniac.

For me before Halloween ends. H20 is the most lackluster film in the franchise. It is more boring than Halloween 5. At least Halloween 5 has an interesting Michael Myers and it is still creepy, scary, and eerie all the stuff you want in the Halloween franchise. If you give me an uninteresting Michael in a Michael Myers film like in h20 and in Halloween Ends you know it's a bad film.

Gotta give you credit man, I rewatched RZ’s Halloween II last night and I actually really enjoyed it, like a solid 3.5/5 for me. All the issues you mentioned I agree and hate, especially some of the dialogue (although nowhere near as bad as the first remake). Unfortunately I could only watch the directors cut which I still dislike more due to the awful talking scene but I’ve seen the theatrical before and I rewatched that ending too. It’s good! I was wrong, but yes it still has serious issues that annoy me.

The only Halloween films I love and consider great are Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween 4 which I consider a great Halloween trilogy, and Rob Zombies Halloween. I think that movie is massively underrated and has the scariest interpretation of Michael Myers. I think act 1 of that movie is great too, i don’t get why people hate it so much.

The new trilogy's biggest problem is the execution. All 3 movies have great moments but that is it. I thought 2018 was a mixed bag slasher with a strong finish. Kills is actually a very enjoyable midnight movie for the first 30-40 mins but collapses later. Ends is a decent thriller but a horrible Halloween film no matter how original it is. I mostly agree with the rest of your ranking and thanks for taking the time.

I'd be ok with the Corey Cunninham storyline if they would've just had Michael in it more with HIM doing most of the kills. Also, if they didn't make him so damn weak. If they would've delivered on those two things along with the unique storyline, it would have made it a much better movie despite how different it was. And of course the end fight should've been longer/more intense.

For me: (none of these are in any order within the categories) The Devil's Eyes: Would have Halloween 3, Halloween 2 and Halloween Kills Happy Halloween: Would have Halloween 6, RZ's Halloween 2, Halloween 2018, Halloween Ends and Halloween 1978 Evil Dies Tonight: Would have Halloween 4, Halloween H20 and RZ's Halloween 1 Stop it: Would have Halloween Resurrection and Halloween 5. And I wouldn't put any in Trick or Treat, as I don't hate any of these films. But although we have differences, Halloween 3 is my favourite and Halloween 5 is my least favourite! Similar to you.

I completely agree with the fresh story and ideas present in Ends, but the reason I hate it is because they made Michael super weak in his final movie, the worst way to end something is to make a whole new thing AND ignore most of the stuff that came before it
