First thing I do with a layout is matt all my photos in whatever color seems to fit with my pages or elements I plan to use. So I am more of an intermediate but sometimes I do like to kick it up a notch and add more elements, it really depends on how much stuff I have for the layout theme. But in general I don't like it too busy. But I do love all the border making stuff and title making stuff. That spring title you made is just gorgeous!!! So for me matting photos and than adding in the fun borders or titles.
