I used to work in retail. A customer got upset about something and my supervisor apologized and said "Sorry sir, this is the policy. I just work here and can't change it." The customer then started to tell my supervisor "You don't have to work here, you can live with just a fishing pole." My supervisor replied "I have a family to take care of with very young children. A fishing pole doesn't put a roof over their head." The customer then left and climbed into his brand new F-150. We are all stuck in the system we were born into.

I unsubscribed because I was pissed well something in me told me to go back and watch that video again. Something in that video switched something in me, I questioned my faith and am no longer Christian. I can’t deal with a God that hates ppl for who they want to have sex with. I am also an Anarchist because you have opened my eyes. I plan on getting a political science and law degree and fighting for the people as a politician to get more people to be anarchist ( ik it sounds bad but the only way to destroy capitalism is to play the game). I totally get it. In a sense, we are trapped in capitalism. Personally i would think it would be really cool if you did a video series where you "brush up" on your survivalist skills and just for the sake of fun, make like a "heist plan" or tutorial on how to escape the capitalist society and live sort of off the grid. Would love to just play around with the concept and go super in depth in the best way to do it. Or another one, I'd love to see maybe like a worldbuilding game where you design sort of what you think the perfect society of anarchism would be. With hand drawn pictures and elaborate storytelling. Sort of like an RPG. Would love to hear you talk more about what you would do to potentially live the way it sounds like you want to live. People love hearing others exited to talk about and go in depth about the things they care deeply about. But as always. Loved the video! ❤️

Here's, in short, my answer to "Why I Haven't Left Civilization": Government powers, to remain in power for as long as they do, must first decide what is “important” for the governance and stability of their regime. These priorities typically revolve around maintaining order, ensuring economic stability (in ways that benefit the ruling class), and perpetuating the existing power structures. Once these priorities are established, the government uses various means to propagate these ideas among its citizens. This is done through a combination of state-controlled media, education systems, and public policies that present these governmental priorities as being in the best interest of the people. The narrative is crafted in a way that citizens come to believe that they are working towards their own well-being and/or the collective good. When in reality, they’re primarily serving the interests of the ruling elite. This process creates a system where the majority of citizens unknowingly contribute to the persistence of a power structure that doesn’t serve their long-term needs/interests. The governments, through their control of information and resources, makes it difficult for individuals to challenge or deviate from this prescribed path. When citizens recognize this disparity between their interests and those of the ruling class, they find themselves in a difficult position. Straying from the path set by the government results in social, economic, and sometimes even legal repercussions. The system is designed to make any alternatives uncomfortable, thereby discouraging dissent or significant change.
@EphemeralRift
@EphemeralRift Ай бұрын
Then you add in the fact that government and business, and to an extent religion, are all having a threesome in bed. Like I said in the video the few “good” things about government is how when you get robbed, victim of violent crime, white collar crime, etc., there is some protection and justice , but as I also stated that topic of humanity and why ppl do what they do is a whole other discussion.

I may not agree with you on anarchism, but I do understand simplifying many aspects of living to their core in order to pursue a fulfilling life, rather than then letting the rat race consume you. However, as a realist some ways, it's still tangible to move out somewhere rural. live by as much simple means as possible, and acquire many acres of land if you put your time to it. Yes, the reality all land is owned and sadly becoming even more expensive is true, but pursuing a life away from urban cities brings you much closer to rawer and more truthful experience. And subsequently, I believe it'd also enlighten you. I too yearn for a more older lifestyle focusing only on what matters, but I cannot say I truly understand it if I haven't lived it. Going hunting, camping off grid, and learning to live in rough conditions is a true test to that dream, and if you cannot endure it, then that's just it. Although I definitely agree with your statement on school and how it does little to teach home economics like cooking food, dressing animals, surviving, and using basic tools.

Throughout all of these years, You have faithfully taken me to illustrious and fantastical places, which I've been perpetually grateful for! You're an excellent storyteller and an evocative asmrtist! I like everything you do I realize, even though its such a vast difference, your general cadence and personality hold engaging in this hypersaturated world of stuff to do and watch and pay attention to. And I say this as someone who realizes and tries to keep aware of the parasocial relationships I have with any other artist on the web! learning that one of my favorite artists is also an anticapitalist anarchist certainly makes my day! It's so important to be able to make stuff and live a fulfilling happy life even while in the midst of a viciously unjust system. Most of your eldritch or esoteric asmr have helped me to cope with it, good humor pair well with a dark/spooky aesthetic. The past few years i had a crippling addiction to monster, in my naive attempt to medicate my adhd with monster i fell into a rabbithole of impulse and cravings that drastically impacted my health for the negative. Since getting off of that, I haven't had a monster in a good few years now which I'm proud of! Although my perspective is different, I can also very much understand the importance of anarcho-primitivism or however you'd personally consider it, these things aren't to be prescribed and assigned but individually expressed. Ultimately I think all these things encapsulate together to one greater thesis of being able to work past the cognitohazards of advertising, Asmr, caffeination in a world of temptations and adhd, and ultimately getting to see that you're doing somewhat alright however difficult. I am grateful you've shared this video and I wanted to take the effort to comment in the same headspace and energy you've given! I find most creators fall out of their creative pursuits and are just mostly repeating things over and over and then ending with a sponsor. Sponsors are important for the livelihood of creators but usually I find them to eventually overshadow the creators and their goals. Anyhow, I say that to say that you are one of the few creators I find don't fall easily into the regiment and obligation. Thank you for your asmr, your storytelling and your perspective! And praise cthulu and the other pantheons! P.S I believe that we need to understand how alike we are and really champion each other with solidarity rather than plainly dividing and fighting, part of this is why I'm an anarchist. Hierarchy is pernicious and needs to be consciously observed rather than me to knee-jerk react and go "Oh wow everyone around me is a real jerk" I'm getting a bit off topic but I spend a lot of my time on youtube and the web as a whole and I just want to be more conscious with how I watch my videos, engage with creators, friends, mutuals, whoever... I want to be more conscious and you help cultivate both a community and culture of open-mindedness, Much love.

I can definitely feel you on this level. I've never been someone to care about money or things, things are nice but they hold no intrinsic weight to me. New things are exciting, but they rapidly turn 'normal' and just another bauble or something that just takes up space that you might not even use besides once or twice a year. That being said, I recognize the importance of 'playing the game' because there's little way not to. Life is all about figuring out if you're comfortable where you are/end up, I think at a certain point. I've had survival training, and used to build trail along the Buckeye Trail so I definitely know of good places I could go for mushroom foraging/hunting/etc. But I also weigh my connections with my family and other people I know and love moreso than I do the isolation. It's a simple formula in my opinion, kind of depressing, but as far as I figure other people are the only tether I really have to 'playing the game', it keeps me prisoner, but it also gives me much more than I think I would get isolating myself off the grid.

This human can definitely relate. Honestly, your channel has been one of the only sources to really inform me about Anarchism and Anti-capitalism, other than a pretty cool teacher from college. But anyway, I've always loved your sciency asmr vids (real cool stuff) and at the back of my head have always thought like- "its all messed up, humanity is real f-ed up and weve doomed ourselves from the start of yada yada yada" it was mostly stuff that made me sound pretty edgy lol Either way watching you talk about these serious topics from time to time alongside some things and cool people from college has really opened up my mind and like you said i just dont get how some people just dont realise all this and think for at least a second "holy crap, this is all pretty freakin messed up..." God im going on a tangent XD what im trying to say is: I loved the vid! (also ive been seeing a bunch of comments on these non asmr vids thinking youve gone nuts, especially with dropping the coffee beans there. They clearly have never had an undiagnosed neuro-spicy person talking to them about things they are really interested in XD)

This is exactly why i love Paul's channel, he's not afraid to speak his mind unlike so many other fake people on KZbin with plastic smiles. I'm sure every human being has their opinions and world views of their own but rarely speaks their mind because they are afraid... these people are cowards and for them, money is more important than being real and talk about issues of this society. We need more people like Paul because we need to talk about these things to make us think for ourselves, not hive mind thinking which is very toxic! I am a proud anarchist and many of my opinions on this society will make people feel but that's the thing right here, we need to make people feel, question things in life etc. and when that happens, we are on the right track! Rant over... have a great day, everyone! (even those who disagree) 🙂🤔

In some peoples’ defense, they are not fake but probably literally afraid and nervous to use their platform like i do. And not just that, but not every KZbinr/actor/musician etc needs to be like someone like me. However, there are plenty of public facing people (sports, actors, tv personalities, etc) and companies that aren’t afraid but don’t speak out on stuff like this because of their “image” & money. Then you have ppl who wish they could speak out but are afraid to lose their jobs. Anyway I could go on but that’s the short of it.

I listened to this at work and agree with almost everything, unfortunately Capitalism is the best system we have so far. It's simply human nature to reproduce. Over-population is our biggest concern going forward... Life does seem too complicated these days, but It's worth noting that our hunter gatherer predecessor's didnt have a choice in how they lived either, they, like us, had their own challenges and problems to overcome. I appreciated this video I felt like it challenged ideas and made me think about different aspects of life. I like the talk over the 'rock and a hard place' that your anarchist goals lead to, and the conversation of all the caveats of achieving it. It does make me wonder, that with enough determination and time, that it can be a lifestyle future generations can be welcome to live - as I do think unfortunately the best your generation and my own (currently 21) will achieve is knowledge of it and create stepping stones for future generations to potentially have. I hope you do more of these, I've looked towards you for inspiration and admired you for a while. The raw-ness of this video is amazing. Thank you ER!

I think you may have the definition of anarchism wrong, The "Primitive Chiefs" that you mention (21:10) are a form of hierarchy/authority that cannot exist in an anarchy or anarchistic society.

@@ApathyParabellumI think all this labeling is stupid especially when you have individuals thinking leaderships is a component to anarchism in any form. Dudes just want to leave freely and provide for themselves naturally. It’s so simple it’s not anarchism though
@EphemeralRift
@EphemeralRift Ай бұрын
I don’t have it wrong. I spoke BRIEFLY about hierarchy immediately after. Aside from that, real life and its complex scenarios cannot be defined by words in a dictionary. If people are living off the land, coexisting with nature, distributing resources fairly amongst each other if they have a tribe, that’s as pure a form of being human as possible, and that’s anarchism. That’s how our species existed for millions of years during our evolution.
@rappy669
@rappy669 Ай бұрын
There will be always some sort of hierarchy as long as a person has a dependance on something and interacts with other people. The question should be more if an hierarchy is justified to exist and why. I personally am for the minimization of all hierarchies to the minimum or their complete abolishment. But due to how people work, it can't be done at once. Is there a chief in a Tribe? Why is that person the chief? A chief organizing equal food distribution has more of an justification than a chief using the power to enforce a feudal social structure for example. (My explanation is a bit oversimplified here. I mean there were books written about these questions :P) I personally use classical anarchism/ anarchism without specific adjective as my political compass. I just don't see a reason to advocate for a specific branch of anarchistic thought. I think an anarchist society could end up in different ways depending on many circumstances.

Hey ER, love your vids! I just wanted to point out that your definition of hierarchy is not something all anarchists agree on, for example, being sympathetic to anarchists myself, I am more receptive to the "justified hierarchy" type of anarchism, where someone might have hierarchy over someone else, but it is always justified, e.g. a medical doctor having hierarchy over you when it concerns medical matters. What you mentioned really is only anarcho-primitivism, which in my exprience is literally not only the most niche and smallest subsect of anarchism, it is also, quite frankly, at best a joke, at worst eco terrorism. Just wanted to give my 2 cents, its nice seeing you make more authentic videos like these, cheers!

Native Americans were shaving each other’s skulls off and going to war. They didn’t just sit around by a fire and tell stories and hunt all the time. Capitalism isn’t perfect but it’s the best system anybody has found and works the best in practice Energy would never work you give people too much credit somebody would try to get Power humans naturally need a leader, which is why it would be anarchy just craziness And I don’t think a good solution to modern day problems is we should all go live in the woods as an avid camper I would love if we could do this, but it’s just not realistic I do have a tremendous amount of respect for the fact you really need to put your views out on the Internet especially as an influencer, a lot of people do not have the gall to do that cheers friend

The only other alternatives to capitalism were destroyed by the world's most powerful alliance (NATO) blockading and wearing them down for decades. I mean shit, the first country people try to shit on is Cuba, even though it has done phenomenally well for itself considering that the world's most powerful country has been trying to destroy it for over 60 years now. Cuba STILL has the world's highest literacy rate, and some of the best doctors world wide. The United States, the richest and most powerful country in the world, still can't hold a candle to Cuba's health care.
