Hi Terry, i allways appreciate people who think outside the box and outside of their comfort zone ! the "coffee" you consume at your router/switches/APs is just going "throught" them, it will be cooked somewhere in the internet on a streaming server, with thousands of routers and switches in between the line from the source (server encoder) to the destination (streaming client device decoder). You can not really optimize a already cooked coffee (in the internet) when falls into your local coffeepot and is ready to drink.. to stay in your example. of course you can optimize your local "dishes/coffepot" to be cleaned, but then you have to have really prober knowlegde where and why you have to adjust. This must be align within the standards of the IEEE RFC's, to work. IEEE or similiar standards are something really rare in the hifi industry but mandatory in the data transport world based on the OSI reference model where all network attached infrastructure has to follow. You need to separate the topics into Layers as there are Layer 1 (power and physical devices) Layer 2 (Switches / APs that handles MAC Adresses) and Layer 3 ( IP-Packet handler like Routers). Your home ISP Router is just a NAT/PAT device, not are really Router, more a Layer 2 Device without a routing table. Independent if you are using real local Routers by your own demand in between. All phy wires in the line of the ISP NAT device towards your streaming client, MUST meet the IEEE defined standards, if they don't => no Link/ no packet flow. If you change it manually to not standart => no Link/ no packet flow. The often discussed topic on Wifi Network are only discussed from people who do not really get the picture. For example, if your local cooked coffee migh looses some small powder pieces on your damper, it will still taste very good. I don' t belaeve you can taste if there are missing some powderpices of your coffee. To speak in more technical words, the music stream is build on OSI Standards and IEEE Codecs, that contains detailed descriptions also for packet lost and jitter inside a stream... from the internet, through all of the thousands of Router hops down to your client with a lot of latency in between. To cover this, normally your stream endpoint has memory buffers for income and outgoing packets based on the phy Media Speed and Duplex behavior and also the pice of software decoder inside the client have the same buffers. Because Packet Lost, Jitter, Delay is something that is totally normal and also descriped within the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Standards and of course the RFC's for the used Codec of the stream. This works also if your Wifi is weak by congestion or overlapping channels, there is nothing like noise on a Radio receiver. Either you client get the Packets, than the music plays as the codec is defined or the stream and music stops because the sending/receving buffers on some devices are empty because of packet lost or processing lack. Even in this case, you can not and wnt not change the buffers. If you start monitoring your infrastructure, you might look on the packet lost on your devices, Switches, AP and whatever... but the problem is,, even if you see packet lost, you have to have the knowledge why in some cases it is the nature of the device to have Packet Lost, because it can only work half duplex for example. You can make thinks mutch worse if you change for example Duplex Settings without proper understanding how the mechanic of AutoSensing and / or AutoNegotiation works between two endpoints and if your Cable Infrastructure really is capable of.. The difference between Cat5 and Cat5e is huge ;-) And so on, and so on.. stay strong and kind regards !

On your advice, I replaced the default low cost router with a fritz!box 6660 router with ip forwaring enabled so that a dedicated lan connection is available. The difference from before is amazing. Thank you Terry.

And there are no more disconnections. Before every third change from cd to qobus I had to restart the whole system. A whole day and everything runs as it should be.
