Coffee knock box

Hi,
I just bought this awesome dovetail jig and I was looking for something cool to build with it, meanwhile a friend asked me if I can build him simple wooden box for his new espresso machine.. so I decided to build it a bit different..
I made this box from white oak, the bottom made from 2 layers of wood and 1 layer of 4mm steel plate in between to prevent movement when knocking.

At 3:04 I saw you cut a square of what looks like aluminum sheet the same size as the bottom, but I didn't see what you did with it. I saw you apply finish to the inside and outside of the bottom and both appear to be wood. ?
