I just bought that coffee and I agree. It has a "weird “ taste to it. I’m trying to find a good way to drink it. I think it helps to not expect it to taste like regular coffee. Take it for what it is and enjoy it that way. Great review. 👍🏽

When we came to America a couple of years ago we stayed in New Orleans and went to Cafe du Monde and had a bagnite. It was a great experience. ☕💖

I've seen the Cafe du Monde coffee in stores for many years and finally decided to grab a can and try it. First, I was surprised at how coursely ground it is. My current brewing method is a V60, so I ran the coffee thru my grinder set to an appropriate pour over grind. I then brewed the coffee and tried it. I did like it, but I like strong, rich, robust cup of coffee. It was on the bitter side but I knew from the can that mixing it 50/50 with milk is how it's meant to be made. My first thought was that the black coffee with condensed milk and a lot of ice might be a damn good Vietnamese coffee, which seems to make sense, given the history of French influence in Vietnam. Since, I've tried it in a drip brewer and found it to be very weak, probably due to the coarseness of the grind. Then I used a moka pot and mixed it 50/50 with milk, and that was pretty good. Not as good as a true flat white, but not too bad. I'm surprisingly drawn to the smell of the ground coffee and intrigued by the whole thing, so I will keep experimenting.

Thanks for your honest description. I’m going to try to find some chicory blend in my grocery store. Just curious plus I’ve read that chicory has health benefits.

Totally made sense! Nice review. I am having the French Market brand chicory coffee at the moment. Since I fast in the mornings I usually have coffee with no additives. But with this I am thinking I need milk to soften the overall flavor. One thing I am finding is I usually drink coffee slowly and usually end up finishing it at room temperature. With chicory blend I do not find it as appealing once it reaches room temp as regular coffee. Thanks for the review!

Great review! I've been to New Orleans a handful of times and can say that Cafe du Monde is a great place to go to enjoy the history and just soak in the culture. I have bought that coffee at home but it doesn't seem to have the effect that it does when you are in New Orleans. Still, life is all about variety!

Great review my friend. It is an acquired taste. I like it but I also like straight coffee. The donut is pronounced Ben-yay. If you get to NOLA call me. Cheers.

Now, you've got my curiosity going and I want to try it. Many years ago I stayed at Disney's Port Orleans Resort on vacation at Walt Disney World and I distinctly remember them selling this can of coffee. Now I regret I didn't buy some. I did have beignet's there for the first time and loved them! Interesting to learn about chicory. As always, great review!

Thanks for your research and sharing with the rest of us. It does have a bitter bite to it. but I like strong coffee, it kind of makes it really taste strong and dark. I like the dark roast and the starbucks type kick and bite to the coffee.

I like it as well because it holds up when I put cream in it. The cream ends up enhancinthe coffee and not covering it. Thank you for your support and comment my friend.

Love new orleans and love cafe du monde coffee. The French roast is better imo. Beignet is pronounced Ben yay. Never did try one but my friend at work from Nola says they're great. What a town... Something very cool about it.

“Coffee” « CAFÉ » + « AU » “To The” or “With The Use Of” + “Milk” « LAIT » *has no implication about equal parts of neither coffee nor milk. So, feel free to make your next café au lait in unequal parts either way!
