Coffee Ride on a 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado
Hello everyone,
I'm hoping to have some cul-de-sac visit videos soon, but thought you might like this little ride out on a fabulous 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. Thank you so much Steve for allowing me to ride your bike for a coffee morning ride. It was tons of fun! I really enjoyed riding your bike. I've enjoyed these bikes for a number of years since watching KZbin videos of Ewan McGregor's motorcycle restoration.
The bike handled really well. It's a very smooth and comfortable ride. The writing position is different to what I'm used to, but very easy to ride. Similarly, the "heel/toe" gear shift change it was different, but very easy to use after some helpful hints from Steve.
Here's a link to the video of Steve's recent "Foggy" Monster visit to the cul-de-sac:

Ciao a tutti, I have a few cul-de-sac videos still in the works, but in the meantime I hope you will enjoy this ride on another great classic bike... I'm expecting more comments about my pronunciation of Moto Guzzi than anything else 😉🇮🇹

Nice to see all the Moto Guzzi riders and owners past and present come out on this one, Mike. I knew you had a following. I hope you get another chance to ride it again through some nice long twisties, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that the faster it goes and the smoother it handles with just a simple twist more of the throttle all that bottom-end power is still just there. It’s like a high speed tractor. Honda managed to capture some of that Guzzi magic in their ST1100 & ST1300 Pan Europeans and then in the CX500 & Turbo CX650 - all great engineered bikes, but nothing beats a Guzzi at being a Guzzi, and I’m sure the Italians wouldn’t have it any other way.

For what it is worth… I own two Guzzi’s. Both altered to what I like and what comforts me. Both with a Cali origine. For me, the Eldorado is the most beautiful bike there is. The maximum ‘zen’ of riding a bike. Wish I had one… but happy with what I own.

There's nothing like a Guzzi! I've had three Guzzi's and right now I have a BMW. The BMW is great, good ride but its not a Guzzi. So the BMW will be replaced. Eldorado is a nice one, if I can find an ok project it might be one of those. I've had the 1976 Le Mans, 1985 1000 Le Mans and the 1989 1100 Sport. Also the new V100 Mandello is tempting....hmmm

In the 70s I test drove a new Bonneville and a Commando but they were out of my budget so I "settled" for a used Motto Guzzi Ambasador. Stock bars right side gear and dry clutch. I loved that bike! I now ride a 2004 Guzzi Breva. Same basic engine and transmission and drive train and dry clutch. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Thanks for the video Mike.

That Guzzi valve ticking was very similar on my small Stornello. Upshifting downwards felt very comfortable and natural, and quick. I had the 850 T on a poster in my teen-age room, but that upgrade remained a dream.

Thanks for sharing this, Mike, it's always a pleasure taking a ride with you. I've always admired Moto Guzzi's, when I had my Ducati 250, I used to go to a little shop in Chicago, that was the only place for my parts, and there was a Guzzi and a Laverda in the shop for years, begging me to get on them. They are very much the Italian BMW for the road.

Greetings from New Zealand again Mike. Loved the Guzzi, many moons ago I had a brief flirt with a 1000 California that I rebuilt from a fire damaged insurance write off. Loved that bike. Great videography and commentary. I had a Police Amby for more than 20 y, but sold it to a guy in Mexico who had to have it. It had a top gear, 4th, whine inaudible to humans, but drove dogs to great distraction. And some dogs were faster in the chase than the Guzzi. I was never insulted by the Moto Goofy moniker, and I just called her "The Goofy".

Thanks for your Video I really enjoyed. It love the Eldorado 850's. I love the loop frames designs actually to the Tonti Framed bikes. I have a 1980 Tonti Framed SP 1000, and the engine is almost the same as this one you are on. Mine has had the timing chain up front replaced with gears, and I have converted it to electronic ignition. I am running 5 ohm coils. I rebuilt the bike from boxes. The engine was rebuilt, but everything else was completely dismantles and had been for 20 years. There is nothing quite like a Moto Guzzi 90 degree transverse twin. It has a character all its own. I also have an A65 thunderbolt and a 2000 R1150 GS BMW. The bloke at Cycle Garden Cali, sell these every now and then and posts them on youtube as he barrels up and down the road outside his factory. He certainly can get them moving. example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3esaIF7dtV-g5Y Example 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXi5aaZ6dreeY5o
