This is what happens when a "church" is constructed through Roman Catholicism. Doesnt matter how "Spritual" a church may think it is. Doesnt matter that a Pastor says that "God" started a church, when the foundation is not set through THE MOST HIGH, this is the confusion that you can expect. My heart goes out to the people who have gave finances to this church. They will certainly not get back what they put in from this organization. Much Much error in this whole process.

Let’s put the blame on Bishop Hutchins (RIP) and the succession papers. He should have laid out more clear instructions, and also signed the documents. This sounds like a lot of mess, and eventually this church will be no more.

I agree. This the reason claiming a church as a person’s legacy is a very bad idea and most of all is unbiblical. It’s obvious the uncle is bull headed and by far doesn’t have what it takes to pastor. The fight itself will ultimately destroy what’s left. I think at this point Pastor Derrick should get the majority of the members and start over. Let Elder D. get the building that he doesn’t have the wherewithal to keep.

@@lady6916 My thoughts exactly! I can’t see Bishop Hutchins making Dennis his successor. It just doesn’t make sense. He doesn’t have administrative skills, people skills and he is bullheaded. I think Hutchins put him as a successor just to have someone for the bank. To me that’s another problem. All this was done without the board or the church’s approval. That’s why as a leader it’s important to include your team and church on business decisions. The only right way to deal with this is to empower the church with their right to choose a leader among the two or however they deem necessary.

The members seem to want reconciliation between uncle and nephew and I think that is wonderful. It also seems that everyone is fighting for power, control, and money. Someone should just bow out gracefully. I believe God is speaking and the person anointed to lead the church is neither one. One is displaying a sense of entitlement and the other greed. We're seeing a lot of preachers passing the baton to their children to carry the "legacy," when it is really about "keeping it in the family" and bloodline. A good leader identifies their successor and whether it be blood or not.

Thanks for this comment. His brother has been by his side for the majority of the life of this church. I was right there. Of course he had hopes for his son as they were beginning a relationship Derrick II decided to sever years ago as he picked his mother’s side before 2010. He just started talking to him (his Father) again because he needed his bills paid. Bishop was paying Derrick’s alimony etc. Father dies and no more money rolling. He started with the foolishness the same week of Dec 5th. Nobody knows the whole story just the lies that have been told. He would’ve eventually got the church from his uncle because that’s what Bishop wanted. It was never just handed to him because he doesn’t know any of the business. I don’t believe a man’s legacy comes with the Lord’s church, however it should line up with who knows the business of the church and the spiritual temperature of the people. It’s the Lord’s church.

The question they failed to ask was whether the documents stated if Dennis was to be the Pastor or just the President of the company. That’s 2 different things. Dennis destroyed every church he Pastored.

The man said the documents that are to be reviewed by the court stated that Dennis the brother was to be pastor.. Derrick becomes pastor in the event of both Derrick Sr/Dennis retiring, avoiding looking for another pastor as well as having someone younger to lead the church. It was very clear

Some of us really jumping to conclusion at the time of bishop Hutchins death the church was in the organization of the church of God in Christ and the cogic bylaws are that if a pastor of a jurisdiction demise or is not able to pastor anymore for any reason it is the sole power and discretion of the jurisdictional bishop to appoint a pastor in this case bishop Hutchins was a bishop of a jurisdiction in this case the presiding bishop and the general board decide who will be the next successor in this case bishop as any good leader would do would have a succession in the event of untimely matters in bishop Hutchins homegoing the presiding bishop made the decision and honored bishop Hutchins request which did not have to be honored because of church bylaws. The scripture says let their be no division among you this is just another case in my opinion of church infighting and we focus on what man to follow instead of follow God as Paul said follow me as I follow Christ. This look like someone is out for money and a legacy that they was apart of but want to reap greater benefits.

In the end what she said in a recorded church service about the changing of the name of the church and the direction of the church was upheld by the courts and the board, it's newly elected Pastor and the old process was overturned and Bishop Joel Peebles was made Pastor.

Well it doesn’t matter who told whom what the legal paperwork is going to tell everybody how it’s gonna go.. They are asking ok decent questions and he has an answer for everything but why didn’t he have and show copies of the so called legal documents on the big screen as he explained?. I’m watching this rather late at night and gonna have to watch again but the attorney should be explaining this stuff whom I guess is there but They’re just going on his word with no actual proof. I can see the Bishops brothers being interim pastor for six months to a year giving the son time to recoup from his father’s death then step aside and allow the son to proceed as pastor he knows good and well he can’t sustain that church millennials are not gonna hear nor follow him.. I see the actual problem unspoken may be, the brother is too old and the son may be too young snd not quite mature enough. I believe the people are banking on the son who’s young enough to be flexible and not bound by old dogma and a mean and hateful God.. I am aware that just because a pastor has a son doesn’t necessarily mean he should be his successor but greed is a monster and jealousy is cruel to the grave.
