Got in deep in popcorn last year and now have a Great Norther kettle machine, and the same Flavacol and topping. For oil, Sams Club has jars of coconut oil that work better than the jug of orange coconut oil. The neat part is going to my local Gold Medal shop and picking up 50lb bags of popcorn. What a cool place. My coworker was so impressed with my setup, he got his own Great Northern and all the ingredients. Everybody loves popcorn.

you can add a quarter teaspoon of turmeric to the plain coconut oil to give it some color. it doesn't change the taste and gets you perfect color.

Looks good! For 1/3 cup popcorn, I recommend 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil, 1 tablespoon clarified butter, then add 1/2 teaspoon Flavacol. After popping, use real sho'nuff Irish melted butter for topping. If wanting more salty, shake a bit of Flavacol to taste. Seriously good!!! :) You'll never do it different again!

Could you explain the types of butter you recommend? I've found clarified butter at my local store so that needs to be used when popping the popcorn with the coconut oil. But the Irish butter, would that be like Kerrygold butter you just melt up and top your popcorn with? Thanks
@FiddlePig
@FiddlePig Жыл бұрын
@@Professor5180 I make my own clarified butter using 1lb of unsalted butter, KZbin can tell you how to do it. Kerrygold is great, melt it (don't burn) and shake it on. But any butter will do. All good!

I just cook/pop with the Snappy butter oil (its just flavored veg oil). Don't have to buy the colored coconut oil. Taste exactly like theater popcorn with less oil (don't need to sqirt in more after popping). Also, if you want to ziploc it for the next day, it stays dry and pretty fresh as long as you let it cool before bagging. Only downside is that it is cold vs warm.

In the past, I followed you on cigar reviews but wasn't expecting this when I searched for theater popcorn at home! First 30 seconds I had the worst case of I know this guy from somewhere. @@COGuyStuff After a couple of months I have officially gone down the rabbit hole of popcorn kernels...Papa Bezos sells an Amish Country 10-pack variety. My love for cigars and tasting the different nuances in blends has paid off with the popcorn. I think you would love trying to spot out the differences between different kernels (flavor, tenderness, texture...etc)...and always, you should make a video on it...LOL.

The best popcorn in the world was at the Canoe Club, Sunset Beach, Lake Edinburg, PA during the late ‘50’s and early 60’s. Don’t know what they used other than popcorn maker and paper bags to serve (sorry I was only pre-teen and early teens). Never have had better and still remember some 60 years later.

The only thing I change is... Real butter on the popcorn. Not butter flavoured oil. Not cheap, but the flavour is undeniable. If you want to get REAL fancy, you can use clarified butter (ghee) as your topping. Popcorn won't get soggy, and will be edible for days. Yum!
@NightmareRex6
@NightmareRex6 6 ай бұрын
a big thing of oil will also go bad while the flavacol will last for years exept it might block up, the small things of pocorn oil are atualy MORE EXPENSIVE than real butter so yea i wouldent see why not use real butter unless its a convience thing to not have to seperate but id say just lazyly seperate it cook it in the yellow part and just use the remaining slish of milksolids and yellow for topping.
@crooker2
@crooker2 6 ай бұрын
@@NightmareRex6 I make popcorn with coconut oil, add flavacol to the hot oil just before adding the kernels... then I eat the popcorn dry. I imagine it's a little healthier that way, and with the flavour profile I give it... I don't really need all that oily butter on my fingers. My kids love it (way more than microwave popcorn).

Never really cared that much about authentic theater style popcorn.... as it's usually greasy/oily and/or salty AF, but we do make popcorn at least a couple times a week over at my bro Aaron's place.... usually Friday and Saturday nights for Family Movie time with his munchkins. We use a hot air popper though.... which works AMAZINGLY well... and they pretty much last forever, b/c there's so few working parts to go wrong.... lol. Once your popcorn is done, just add REAL butter (melt a couple tblsp. (or however much ya want) worth in the microwave for about 30-ish seconds, then drizzle (slowly.... THIN stream) over the popcorn while someone else is gently tossing the popcorn in the bowl.... then add Nutritional Yeast flakes (can be had at any local health food store, if you're not already familiar with them.... helps to buy those in bulk.... just like the popcorn and other ingredients).... again, while lightly tossing the popcorn in the bowl... then spritz Bragg Amino Acids (it's like a much lower sodium version of Soy Sauce.... buying that by the gallon at the health food store, where ya got your yeast flakes is a good idea also) all over it.... while still tossing said popcorn. What you get in the end is some of the best damn popcorn you'll ever cram in your pie-hole.... and it's not loaded with a bunch of artificial/chemically tasting crapola.... YUM! ;-)

@@COGuyStuff About a year into my 2 1/2 yrs at the theater, we switched from an artificial butter flavor (I sometimes worked concessions and hated saying "Would you like butter flavoring?") to ghee in 1 gallon jugs. The projectionist was a tinkerer and lowered the wattage of a popcorn heater to liquify the ghee to pour into the butter pumps. I forgot to say that we popped our corn on site. We rotated shifts when needed and it was an 8 hour shift, popping corn 2 lbs at a time. The kettle was about 2 feet in diameter and tilted to empty the popped corn onto a sifting table where the unpopped corn dropped out. We bagged it into 4 foot tall 2-1/2 foot in diameter bags and filled the storage racks in the "popcorn room" behind one of the screens. We brought up about 6 or so bags in the front storage room near the concession counter. We filled the warming bins at the counter from the bags and at closing, scooped the remaining popcorn bag into the bags. On any given day the popcorn could be fresh, or more than a week old. I think most theaters just pop in small batches now considering that huge crowds are not the norm any longer. 👍
