Ground forces from the Airborne raid the Luftwaffe position in an attempt to win air superiority in the Faymonville region. The LG40s in mass pointed at the infantry catch the US Forces off guard, at times confusing their hard hitting shells for a Brummbar which has been detected in the region. Will the 76mm Shermans under the cover of smoke provide the necessary fire power to force the Luftwaffe to retreat?

I agree the mortar did a lot of work this game. Even with the smoke cutting up the ATG firing lines. There are few hedges on this map that give mortars great protection but also really good firing opportunities!

Man I wish you'd popped the Sherman vet suppression with both tanks against that big blob at the end just to see the whole thing melt under the 6 MGs. Seems it would have helped at a few other times. It's tricky tho with the speed loss

Yeah I agree there were some scenarios I could of popped it off this game, but the speed loss is a massive factor, especially since it can not be deactivated. Popping it when there are multiple ATGs lurking could spell a quick Sherman death. I think my judgement will improve with some more experience and better vision control.

Very well played. I think you missed a couple opportunities to get more Sherman upgrades. Canister rounds would have been great for some of your dives, or just keeping info off the VPs. Also maybe I missed it but I don't think you used the free repairs until the very very end. Lastly, was your opponent just refusing to use the loiter? Seems like he would have had enough for that at some point. Would have been a gg ability most likely.

I was planning to get them but the losses at 20:40 really hurt me, an engineer, ATG and HMG all killed with the Axis player stealing the HMG as well. Upon reflection I shouldn't have been as aggressive prior to that and just consolidated my more well rounded combined arms army with the MSC upgrades. I was constantly using the free repairs from MSC from 16:55. I just issue the command via tac map so it's less obvious. I think he didn't have the munitions for loiter, he was throwing grenades at so many of the engagements. He over did it, similar to how I over did the smoke pot drops this game. The smoke pots were worth it at 6:02 as it got me a huge amount of map control, but after that the munitions was best spent on earlier BAR upgrades and my own BG carpet bombing run since he was blobbing his AT ball everywhere.

If you build 2 scouts before you change to pathfinders, they keep the 20 second build time rather than the 30 sec build time as a pathfinder.

25:37 says the p-47 was killed. Never noticed that before, bug? Edit: saw the 1.8.1 patch notes, yep it was fixed

The P-47 pilot says 'heading back to base'. I interpret that as the plane was not shot down, that he completed his mission safely and it's an audio notification to reset the cooldown. Doesn't seem like a bug to me but if they deemed it as unnecessary audio then fair enough.

​@@StephennJFI meant the event notification text on the left side above the mini map, like when a squad gets wiped. The audio heading back to base is fine tho

I really hate seeing this playstyle from Wehr. I see it a lot in my games something like 8-10 inf squads of Grens and PGrens together. Grens are dirt cheap and with the vet gain bonus from the bought veterancy they can pretty easily reach vet 3 and become effective. Granted your opponent did really well keeping his squads alive until the very very late game. Then just dropping 3 LG40 is a load of bollocks too. 210 Muni for a unit that people only recently does insane AOE damage means he doesn't have that much micro-tax. When grouping them you nullify even normal medium tanks, infantry cant even rush a light at weapon from the front without being wiped AND they are retreatable which makes them almost impossible to hit with arty, off map or plane abilities. So wehr can just zerg around focusing down squads with their massive inf blobs and it's completely viable because of the small arms changes. PLUS: going for Luftwaffe makes it even more OP because of the 25% MP reinfoce reduction cost so it's basically always impossible to trade anything until you have some potential to get the 76 sherman and maybe cause a wipe. But so many grens also conveniently have long range snares to endanger your tanks. It was a really lame playstyle from an opponent at the top of the ladder. Very memey and bland. You did well to handle it and I always tell myself I will use smoke more often when I watch your games. It helped keep you in the game a lot, you're a real master of that. ggwp

Yeah it will be interesting to see how the LG40 range reduction nerf will impact this playstyle in patch 1.8.1. This build order does allow for a very fast Panzer IV timing with little threat. Glad to hear my smoke plays are inspiring you! I feel it's one of the strengths of my playstyle, however this game at times I did over use it. I could of saved some munitions on smoke pots and simply just done a carpet bombing instead :)

@@StephennJF Well the carpet bombing is so slow coming in a good opponent almost always dodges it. It does force a move and units that need setting up can't shoot so the smoke usually achieves the same thing but cheaper, I'm my opinion. But there is a large skill gap between us ;)
