I followed your every move, In a stride that wills disguise Little markings clue defined. Your red lips speak of painted figures, The teeth of mangled little listeners, The thoughts that hide your rusty scissors in. Hold them in, swinging honesty across this violence. Obscurity has no hero. The world looks better when you're falling. Grace to comfort, enough to crawl in. Divided we must pray for the broken, No one can fix us. We are, we'll always be the wrong. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blaaah Your touch seeds of emptiness, The callous tips against the brush, The worlds now breaking off to curse. The world looks better when you're falling. Grace to comfort, enough to crawl in. Divided we must pray for the broken, No one can fix us. We are, we'll always be the wrong. We're conspiring. Where was your heart when we needed it most? Live in denial, and I'll be your ghost. There is nothing to let go. Only time will let you know. If you're worth anything you will know that I'm Giving up way to early. Let the axis turn you free and destroy everything you love. The world looks better when you're falling. Grace to comfort, enough to crawl in. Divided we must pray for the broken, No one can fix us. We are, we are, We are, we are, We are, we'll always be the wrong. My note: You’re welcome in advanced.

The song is not entirely palatable to a mass market. It incorporates harsh timbres, jarringly disparate sections, and is overall dark in tone. It is a very depressing lead in to the album, much like the followup track Guns of Summer. Compare to the more defiant Here We Are Juggernaut, which still uses some harsh sounds, but is overall more traditional in songwriting and has a less negative lyric. Personally, I think all of Year of the Black Rainbow is brilliant, and this song is fantastic in its place in the story, but I also recognize that musical tastes are extremely subjective and many people respond with heightened emotions both positive and negative, leading to a lot of frustration.

One of the things I love most about Coheed is that they adapt their sound to the story. YOTBR has a very somber, yet dark and even angry plot so Claudio dips into the aggressiveness if Wilhelm and the pain of the Doctor. Afterman albums both have a sense of the five stages of grief. SSTB is hard to explain so I'll keep away. But IKSSE:3 has that same aggressive tone with the darker parts, but also emotional and crazy (looking at you here Al). Good Apollo has an insanity to match the Writing Writer's own demented and tortured self. And the over all sense of finality in No World for Tomorrow needs no explaining.

I'm not sure why so many people thought very little of this album. I for one appreciated the experimentation. Though I will always consider Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Vol I: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness to be my favorite album, I certainly love this album as well. There were a lot of solid tracks on there and I got mostly enjoyment out of this album. Yes it did depart from the Co&Ca that everyone was used to, but for me it was still the band that I knew and loved. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You just exactly described what I feel about YOTBR. Also, Good Apollo 1 is definitely my favorite as well
@BunnychanFarabee10 жыл бұрын
It's honestly my favorite album. Whereas all the other Co&Ca albums reference 80s metal and classic rock, this one pulls in the 90s post-metal and industrial influences (Tool and NIN primarily) which is what I grew up with, literally. They stepped outside their comfort-zone here and it really paid off, some of their strongest work, much darker yet beautiful.
