Years ago, chaos cut through this atmosphere. The fractured worlds that inhabit this space were once locked in a force of uncontrollable destruction. Gravity was lost. Their planetary trajectories conjoined in one catastrophic collision, choking to remain viable even as the dying glow of their cores peek through the cracks and scars of those impactful moments. Yet a gasp is a sign of life and the planets that many might have cast off as annihilated space continued to show a pulse across the hopelessness. This discarded earth is still very much alive…and made profitable by the 5 Houses of the Star Supremacy, an elite society who looked to the sky and saw potential in the wasted planets. The opportunistic approach could hardly be considered an act of empathy for the human condition, as the decision to convert the dying planets into private prisons meant another type of life sentence awaited those shipped off to their remote reaches. Here, the desolate and derelict would burn away slowly, trapped in a race to death with the very ground they stand on. In this space, between the Well and unknowing.
Our Story Starts there. Into our future, yet far beyond our past. In a romance between a pair of Unheavenly Creatures.
Weaving through the blacked out space toward the freckling of cracked planets, The Gavel moved like a funeral procession. In many ways, it was the end of life for the two prisoners being transported within its unmitigable walls, to the most deplorable and prized of the doomed prisons, known simply as The Dark Sentencer.
Lyrics:
Here
Emotions behold
You’ve entered a hell
Where the devil is made of gold
Please
Don’t run your mouth
The questions before
Have no place in his haunted house
Reveal your selfish pleasure
One more time round for good measure
In the answer you hold
Time would be better off
If our souls had been sold
Here where the light only dies to remember
In the place where the blind truly can see
Hear my voice
Dearly Departed
I beg on my knees
It's been my pleasure
To serve your disease
Welcome Home
Shed your skin
And expose your bones
Take my hand
And follow us into the black
So far that we can’t get back
Here
Dig me a grave
And toss in the lives
That you can’t be bothered to save
With their blood on your hands
You enjoy the sun while you shit in the purest sand
Kiss your lover with that filthy mouth
You fucking monster
Here
As evil now gropes
It’s caught us off guard
With its hands reaching for our throats
There’s no telling when the truth is clear
Pay it no mind
Lines were drawn for us, for all sides
In the afterglow
Echoes of time unfold
Give me your word my dear
And promise you wont let go
It’s a shame, I fear
From end to start
We walked their lines
Born to play the fucking part
I fear we got all we had wanted
Close your eyes and believe it didn’t happen
Now shut your mouth beyond your lies
A world knows to stay away from you
The blood you let run
They march as you lead
We laugh in the sun
Maybe that’s all we need
I’m sorry you can’t escape
Here where the light only dies to remember
In the place where the blind truly can see…

Everything about this is classic Coheed: progressive structure, multi-album epic storytelling, multi-media story telling but always music-first, running that bass line all over the place, classic passionate Claudio vocals, and lyrics you can feel right away but want to look up to ponder. Was hoping we'd all get back here together. THANKS COHEED!

Someone must have pissed Claudio off. These riffs have a strong hint of angry Claudio. When he's happy, his music isn't as good. When he's angry, we get "Welcome Home" and "No World For Tomorrow".

Lyrics [Spoken] Know now there is no time Space, between the Well and unknowing Our story starts there Well into our future, yet far beyond our past In a romance between a pair of Unheavenly Creatures The five houses of the Star Supremacy Have privatized the detention zones of the galaxy These planetary prison pits were assembled From the cracked worlds of The Great Crash Which brings us to our stage With a Light, we must learn to love the Black... The Dark Sentencer It begins with them, but ends with me Their son... Vaxus Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Here, emotions behold You've entered a hell where the devil is made of gold Please, don't run your mouth The questions before have no place in this haunted house Reveal your selfish pleasure One more time 'round for good measure In the answer you hold Time would be better off if our souls had been sold Here where the Light only dies to remember In a place where the blind truly can see [Chorus] Hear my voice, dearly departed I'll beg on my knees It's been my pleasure To serve your disease Welcome home Shed your skin and expose your bones Take my hand And follow us into the Black So far that we can't get back Here, dig me a grave And toss in the lives that you can't be bothered to save With their blood on your hands You enjoy the sun while you shit in purest sand Kiss your lover with that filthy mouth, you fucking monster Here, his evil now gropes It's caught us off guard with its hands reaching for our throats Here where the Light only dies to remember In a place where the blind truly can see [Repeat Chorus] There's no telling when the truth is clear Pay it no mind Lines were drawn for us For all sight In the afterglow Echoes of time unfold Give me your word, my dear And promise you won't let go It's a shame, I fear For men to start We walk their lines Born to play the fucking part A shame, I fear For men to start We walk their lines Born to play the fucking part I fear we've got all we had wanted Close your eyes and believe It didn't happen Now shut your mouth Beyond your lies The world knows to stay away from you And the blood you let run They march as you lead We laugh in the sun Maybe that's all we need I... I haven't even listened yet but damnit THANK YOU, fellow music appreciater!!! I've never just FULLY gotten into coheed, but I've always respected the hell out of this band. I was introduced to them in I think 04, and what I heard I enjoyed well enough. But over time they somehow just slipped my mind, like I haven't followed them through and through or anything.... kinda embarrassed to admit it but after good apollo part 1, I pretty much zoned out for a long time! I didn't listen to all the new albums start to end, and I still couldn't tell you the full story of the Amory Wars like a complete plot synopsis... I'm rambling lol sorry My point is, once I initially heard them, I was impressed by their SOUND but even moreso, I was impressed by the sheer ARTISTRY... Here we have this dude, Claudio, this angelic voiced, big haired shy fellow, who is an absolute madman of a guitar shredder, and he somehow became the frontman of this kickass rock band, but he's also an artist who is telling (through song) this epic saga, this massive undertaking, this wild story, the Amory Wars... **like I said, I haven't followed them in forever. But I was impressed immediately by his guitar playing, and equally, by his STORYTELLING.. I was never even truthfully that big into comics but damnit, I respect that it's another artistic medium!!! I always thought Claudio Sanchez was cool as shit, an insanely talented dude with a crazy vivid imagination, a type of almost insanity of creativity, and the drive of someone who is damn proud of, and determined to stick by, THEIR VISION... I dunno how to say it... bottom line I was fascinated and very much pleased to see someone who is willing to take the time to be creative, be a writer/artist/musician/etc and put the work in, to stay true to themselves and their art.. SOOOOO much popular music is mindless, heartless, soulless TRASH.... And then we have a band like coheed. Not only killer music, but an epic soundtrack to an amazing story!!!!!

4 years later and this is still one of my favorite openings to any album. The pure chill present in the opening narration, building into this gritty, pulsing coheedism and dropping right into a coursing first verse. As always, Claudio's voice strikes a chord with my entire existence and Josh's drumming hammers me right back to reality. Truly stunning, well done

Over the last 5 years, this band went from unknown to me, to one of my absolute favorite artists. I’ve listened to all of their albums more times than I can count. I’ve covered them in a band and alone, they’re excellent. The fact that they’re going, not only back to the Amory Wars concept album idea, but also the Good Apollo feel...words can’t express how happy I am.

Yeah, I never want them to 'force' a concept album if they're not inspired to make one, but I'm really happy to see them getting back to it. The sci-fi narrative, even if I've never fully understood it, has been part of the appeal of C&C for me from the start.

I mean having more layers to something certainly isn't a bad thing :D I love how there is this duality in their music. It has 2 different meaning. Like Faint of hearts is a song about Al the Killer and the love for his gun. In reality, it is a song about having phone sex.

This album is an absolute masterpiece. Very rarely do I come across an album where every single track is amazing, from the lyrics to the imagery and storytelling each track is filled with pure passion and emotion; something that very few artists these days can manage to maintain throughout each track or album. You know, I still remember 2008. Heard Coheed and Cambria for the first time, I just couldn't stand them at all. Eventually I heard the instrumental version of Welcome Home in 9, and I was like "Woah, they're that heavy?" (the only few songs I'd heard before that were kind of up beat and happy. But I never stopped and LISTENED to the lyrics then.) I gave them another chance, I stopped and actually started listening. I learned about how they directly tied into the Amory Wars and started reading that. My most reviled band grew on me and became one of my most favorite bands. What songs you're exposed to first can definitely give you a bad or great first impression, I'm glad I heard more from them and was able to appreciate all of their work over time. This song right here, is the first of many new epics to come from Coheed and Cambria. I can fucking feel it.

@@mehrmantraut2038 correct... but if im not mistaken The Afterman double album is also prequel story prior to SSTB. Sirius Amory is the person talking to All Mother in interludes. I guess im asking if you can confirm or not, is the Afterman chronologically before or after YOTBR?

Within the minds of these musicians I lay my heart. I've always loved that Coheed has always had so much depth in their music. I'm a cherisher of quality, what can I say. Over and out Captain
