Did Detroit make a dumb mistake paying Goff 53 million AAV for 4 years with 170 mil guaranteed? Goff is a career 65% guy, Brock is a career 67.5% guy. Goff has 222 TDs and 94 INTs, Brock has 64 TDs and 27 INTs (almost exactly the same ratio). Goff has 264 passing yards per start, Brock has 264 passing yards per start. Goff is 82-51-1 overall (.641 winning percentage), Brock is 23-13 overall (.565 winning percentage). Goff is 4-4 in the playoffs. Brock is 4-2 in the playoffs. Brock is younger and far more mobile. Goff has a slightly better arm and more experience. Goff fumbles slightly more often than Brock. Brock throws slightly more picks than Goff. They are very similar players/values, and Brad Holmes (who is making a lot of very smart decisions) just extended him. This hasn't prevented the Lions from fielding a very good team that has a good chance of beating any of the top AFC teams. The Lions are proof that a team can pay a QB who isn't elite over 50 mil and still have a very competitive team. They just need to hit on draft picks and make smart free agent signings like the Lions have.

@@googleisskynet7312Goff is taller and doesn't need to jump ball like Brock to see and he has a stronger arm since Brocks is literally the worst next to Tua. Goff also also has better accuracy. Brock is a traditional pocket passer lacking the arm strength and height required, Goff doesn't.

@ightimmaheadout290 He's taller and has a slightly stronger arm, and yet he's basically put up the same numbers as Brock, just in a larger sample size. He's playing behind one of the best O lines in the league and has some of the most elite weapons, and it's not like he's blowing Brock out of the water when you consider their complete body of work. Brock is way more mobile than Goff, he's not a traditional pocket passer. He's got almost as many rushing yards in 2.5 seasons than Goff does in 9 seasons. If Goff has better accuracy, why doesn't he have a better career completion percentage? According to Pro Football Reference, Goff is only slightly better this year in on target percentage, and he obviously had a better line and better weapons this year.

I like Purdy. There are a lot of buts: Semi bad weather is a problem, a lot of batted balls, doesn’t throw deep well, gets dinged up, seems to have regressed, bad in 4th quarter, not clutch, poor decisions this year, horrible against Cleveland, Baltimore, Cincy, KC, Buffalo the last two years.
@googleisskynet731223 күн бұрын
Not clutch? Come on, man. He led game-winning drives in both playoff games last year and left the field with the lead in the Super Bowl both in regulation and overtime. He's regressed this year, just like the entire team has, but so many variables went into that which were out of Brock's control. He's struggled in bad weather, but very few QBs are actually good in bad weather. 40% of his away games are going to be under a roof (33% of all teams play under a roof and the Cards and Rams both have fixed roofs on their stadiums). Half of his total games are going to be in Santa Clara, which generally has good weather. Also, the Super Bowl is never played in bad weather anymore. So, it's not like it's that huge of a deal, like it would be if he was a starter in the AFC North or something. He's not an elite QB, but he's as good or better than a lot of other guys who are making 50+ mil AAV. He's proven that he can produce at an elite level when he's got really good weapons, and he doesn't even need a good O line to do it. I often compare him to Jared Goff, who just got extended to a 4-year, 212 mil contract (53 mil AAV) with 170 mil guaranteed. Was that extension the kiss of death for the Lions' future chances? No, because unlike the 49ers, they have drafted well and haven't made idiotic free agent signings every offseason in recent years. Also, "doesn't throw deep well" That ^^ is also not supported by the numbers, either. In 2023, Brock was 8th in completed air yards 1st in completed air yards per attempt 2nd in completed air yards per completion 1st in completions of 20+ yards 1st in completions of 30+ yards 1st in completions of 40+ yards t-4th in completions of 50+ yards 1st in YAC per completion In 2024, Brock was 3rd in completed air yards 1st in completed air yards per attempt 3rd in completed air yards per completion t-3rd in completions of 20+ yards 1st in completions of 30+ yards t-3rd in completions of 40+ yards t-6th in completions of 50+ yards 14th in YAC per completion. Notice how Brock maintained his elite down the field numbers this year despite going from 1st in the league in YAC per completion in 2023 to 14th in the league this year. Why is it that nobody else realizes how well Brock throws down the field? He doesn't have elite arm strength, and sometimes underthrows guy who are 40-50 yards down the field, but all in all, the guy is an elite down-the-field passer, and the numbers prove it.

The one thing Larry is forgetting with the Mahomes deal is it was an EXTREMELY long-term deal. It wasn't 45M for 4 or 5 years, but 10 years. Yes, the APY is lower but no one else got a half of a billion dollar contract. Maybe Brock could get a 6-8 year deal at a lower APY, but let's not pretend Mahomes left a ton of money on the table.

@apuestasfutbol maybe. There is a middle ground though between Mahomes' 10 year $450M deal ($45M APY) and say Dak's 4 year $240M deal ($60M APY.) He shouldn't get as high as either in terms of years or APY, but something like $45M APY for 6 years is easier to swallow for everyone. A good deal is one that leaves both parties happy or no one happy.

@hungmeow8284 I'm sorry but did I say Mahomes isn't worth it or didn't earn it. No. I'm saying that he is making more than the normal 46M APY contract. His contract being 10 years in length changes the entire discussion. Most QBs signed a 4 or 5 year deal. Many of them don't even equal half the total money Mahomes got. Burrow got $275M over 5 years. Dak got $240M over 4. People are so caught up with the APY but no player gets that exact amount every year, hence Average Per Year. Mahomes will be making $60M+ last few years of his deal and his cap hit will go as high as $70M in a couple of years. 10 years, $450M is in a completely different ballpark and can't be used as a measuring stick for other QBs

Also, the Saquan Barkley signing was great. I would take Barkley over McCaffrey. Barkley was linked to the Niners a few years ago but unfortunately that never panned out. We should have won it if it wasn't for a Jake Brendal mis-block at the end of the game. No quarterback survives for long with a shitty offensive line. Look what happened to Mahomes in the Superbowl against the Buccaneers. He was crushed over and over again. I feel that the 49ers gave Purdy an opportunity that changed his life that may not have happened if we didn't draft him. I think he's grateful and truly loves his teammates and wants to be the face of the 49ers and wants to win a Superbowl more than just the money. Look at Mahomes, he has the perfect package! A good salary, endorsements from many sponsor and the face of the NFL. I think Purdy will take that amount of money to enable the team to spread the money around to give him weapons. He's too smart to be greedy and knows 45 million a year is an awesome salary and allows the team to succeed. Greed breeds bad consequences and Purdy needs top-notch protection, so I think he's choose winning over the money for the better of his teammates and the fans.

If they were to pay these guys, based on their performance rather than what they did a few years ago. Football would be way more exciting, what they need to do, is an opt out clause at the end of every year. Look at deebo Samuel, he is at his best. When he is heading into the last year in his contact. But when he gets what he wants, when he gets resigned and he gets paid. He's hurt, or he's sick or his stomach hurts. But when he is in his last year, he puts up unbelievable numbers. Every NFL player and every NFL team needs a no penalty opt clause at the end of every year. If they were to do that, every team in the NFL would be putting up great records. Every playoff would be tight every year. But once those guys get paid, they have no motivation to go out there and play. They would rather spend their time on some resort.

A franchise QB is who you build the team around. Either way, Purdy requires everything to be perfect/healthy (like 2023) which is not realistic. If Purdy could not win the Niners a SB at $1M with a perfect roster, what would make anyone think that he could win at more than $30M?

How many fuckin QBs you giving kyle? 15?

@@rsp49burrow is at home and hasn’t won a SB Daniel’s has 0 post season resume if he somehow wins A SB I’ll stand corrected..I’m rooting for him. That’d be insane. Stroud’s TD/INT numbers are identical to Brock’s this year and Brock has more yards and a better qbr. Goff isn’t a franchise QB and he showed that against the Vikings last night..dude lost to Brock last year in the post season. If Goff wins the SB this year I’ll change my mind despite the fact that his defense and running game will likely be the reason they win one. That team is a juggernaut on paper and their success like Brocks takes a good defense and solid weapons on offense for it to work. Goff got run out of LA and then they won a SB. Herbert limped into the playoffs and doesn’t have a post season resume Jackson doesn’t have a SB but his numbers are obviously “Franchise” or “Elite” or whatever other buzz word niner KZbin clings to. Jackson is right there with Allen in my mind. I’d say Stafford is now elite that he got a SB. You listed all those guys and only one has a SB which should ultimately be the goal, My point is the notion that a “franchise QB” is just out there is stupid and I think more people throw that shit around to sound smart. If one of these top tier guys is sitting around waiting on the niners to call then cool..otherwise sign Brock as he has 0 leverage and they could likely get him at his cheapest rate now. The niners have so many other needs that is smarter to lock him in now. The niners org lucked out with Brock. The niners have already shown they can’t evaluate QB talent..I don’t trust them to use a low round pick on a QB and don’t want a Vet like rodgers or someone else to come in at a high rate.
@rsp4923 күн бұрын
@@__M738 You are pointing out baseless records or stats. If any of those guys had Brock's supporting cast and defense last season, they beat the Chiefs. There are probably about another 5 QBs you could argue that win as well with what Brock had. Rogers comes to mind. Brock does not have the physical traits to be considered "franchise". He also has an injury history in his arm that seems to be an on-going issue. Paying Brock more than $30M would be setting the franchise into bottom tier every year.

Niners need to hurry up and sign Purdy. His value right now is low. The longer the Niners wait, the more they pay. Not only that, players come in less football focused and out of shape when the contract negotiation drags out. Purdy has some good qualities: he is young, good agility, rhe ability to read defense, and good leadership. Sign him now and give him an OL to protect him so he wont be injured.
@pdfortune24 күн бұрын
bad idea. If he has a killer year then he will have earned a huge pay day.
@dc820124 күн бұрын
@pdfortune Purdy had a killer year last year....most passing yards in franchise history and he took the Niners to the SB. The year before, he took the Niners to the NFCCG. QBs are going to cost money. Watch him ball out next year and his asking price will be $65-$70M. If Niners had paid Aiyuk early, they could have saved around $8M annually and he wouldn't have came to the season out of shape. The market for QB is going to be expensive so may as well negotiate with Purdy now while his stock is low. Niners can negotiate for the $48-$55M range and dont pay him until his current contract ends, which could be an absolute bargain. If Niners decide to go the draft route and jump up for a QB then that could be expensive also. We saw how that went with Trey Lance. If Niners are going to go with a lower tier free agent QB then that would be expensive also and may not even be worth it.

Its a damn shame how sports is just all about money now a days. I miss the days when players wanted to play ball because they had a honest love for the game. I wouldnt pay purdy more then 30 million a year. He just doesnt deserve top tier money and i pray as a die hard 49ers since i was baby that john lynch sees it the same way. If we break the bank for purdy this team will be stuck in mediocrity for years to come.

Picture this!! Team gets healthy next season. We cut Brock and save millions. Sign Rodger’s at a vet minimum and bring along Adams at WR. Pay a couple lineman with the money we save on Brock. And win a Super Bowl in the Bay Area with home town kid AR and go off into the sunset. Draft Archie Manning in the following draft by giving up future 1st round picks and win out from there! I’m js this is all possible

He's not Mahomes. Small hands, short, weak arm, can't play in snow or rain, but I like him. Have to pay him more than Aiyuk, I say $35-40mm. Allow us to keep the talent around Brock, and go get the rings! And we still don't know if that elbow injury will come back to haunt him. I hope not! Ever since we lost Aiyuk, it hasn't clicked. Is he worth the big money, when he doesn't have the big weapons?
