John & sleazy have left this plane of existence, but have left behind gold. And gold is the metal with the broadest shoulders. ;) Pure wonderful excellence.

When you can still hop from one side to the other with a certain degree of comfort ...might be one of the last interviews you see Jhonn this "Functional " in a Social setting.

Just discovered this amazing band. Waiting for The Ape Of Naples to arrive in the mail and after I'm gonna order Horse Rotorvator. Amazing compositions and profoundly touching music!

Coil is one of my all time favorite groups but Ape of Naples is easily my least favorite Coil release. Almost never listen to it. I find that new fans of Coil tend to listen to that album for some reason. I recommend exploring their catalog in depth....aliases, live performances, odd compilation tracks etc..

Once you open the door, it can be hard to close. The alcohol was a means to deal with the daily interaction with demons - look at his eyes in any footage, especially toward the end. He was always one of those people, called 'seers' or 'shamans', which saw through the veil of the visible realm to the spirit world. Unfortunately, it is a very dangerous world - angels and devils do exist, they may not look like we think but they are real. I am a huge fan of their work, but I think Jhon learned the hard way that very few people have the power and strength to survive direct confrontation with entities of pure evil.

Alcohol is the worst drug around barring meth, crack, and croc. People who can handle anything else tend to succumb to the aforementioned if they don't get off them p quick. That being said, people who can't handle entheogenes seem to be fine with alcohol....diff'rent strokes, I guess.

@@KnjazNazrath Alcohol is the worst drug, period. It's a slow, slow death compared to say, heroin or cocaine, but it gets so much uglier in the later stages. If you get off opiates, and didn't catch any diseases from IV drug use, your body is mostly spared. Alcohol destroys basically every organ in your body. People tend to focus on liver damage, but the really scary shit is what it does to your brain (literal shrinking of brain tissue) and the increasing evidence of all the types cancer it causes. The social burden also cannot be overstated: alcohol turns otherwise empathetic people into physically/verbally abusive assholes. It sucks.

i guess it is the cutting agents, your m.o., how often you face withdrawal, and what other drugs you combine with opioids! Most (ab) users don`t use opioids on their own but are polytox. I got the experience that smoking rock and its constant comedowns, is way worse for your health than being addicted to opioids. Polamidon or buprenorphine are also great for risk management!

It's annoying that the interviewer asks some ridiculously long questions (especially as you can't hear them) and the band are left nodding and agreeing

Sad to see Coil look down on "pop" music, and especially weird since they remixed the shit out of NIN throughout 90s and Peter being a good friend of Trent at the time. Kinda made me lose respect for them actually. Very elitist and arrogant mentality shown here.

Those NiN remixes have been amazing. It took time to begin understanding their works. Even after listening bands like Autechre, Skinny Puppy for years, Сoil remains interesting enough to listen them over and over.

“I think we are elitist. I know that I am a bit of a snob in some ways. I mean we’re talking about politics now and that is about how much self respect you have and whether you think your opinion is actually better than somebody else’s. And the important thing to remember is that one’s own opinion is the best thing there is for you but not necessarily somebody else. It has got to do with whether you are big headed enough to think that your own opinions are the ones other people should hold. And I think that’s very dangerous. I have certain very strong views about particular things that other people would certainly think were elitist, unusual or unacceptable. But I only hold those views for myself and I wouldn’t necessarily expect other people to enjoy the things that I enjoy. And likewise, I would expect them not to force me to live in the way that they do. Coincidentally we have touched upon a very common misconception- which is that elitism is a bad thing.” - Peter Christopherson, 1987

@Paddy Mcdoogle I wouldn’t say they’re talentless. I couldn’t get into Coil for the longest time, but I always adored Throbbing Gristle. However, just recently I gave The Ape of Naples a full listen and I absolutely love that album. So, no, I don’t think they’re talentless, but I just find the things they say here a bit funny.
