Daniel, you are definitely one of kind. I’ve been following your videos for a while now and I’m so glad that I have. You are an honest and trustworthy dealer that tells things as they are. Unfortunately there aren’t enough people like you out there. We as human beings are naturally trusting and sometimes very gullible. We let ourselves believe that businesses are fair and have our best interests in mind. I realize that even you are in business to make a profit but your approach and honesty sets you apart from so many others. Let me not take up too much of your time and suffice it to say, thanks for your work ethics and honesty. I will continue to be a loyal follower.

Thanks for the information! My first major coin purchase was in 2008 through a deal you described: a collection of US Mint Uncirculated Sets spanning 1968 -2006 that I paid about $700 for through one of those home shopping channels. The actual retail individual value of the set pieces totaled about $450, so I ended up paying $250 more than I should have, or more than 50% over value. But I was new and didn't know any better. 12 years later, I now purchase all manner of coins and currency, but not without doing extensive research on each before buying. Consider that $250 back then the cost of my education.

My grandfather fell for Littleton's coin gimmicks back in the 80s and 90s. I have no idea how many coins he actually bought off them, as only a few were still in the envelopes or package they came in. However, I see the writing on the wall so-to-speak as I'm going through his collection. These people will do just about _anything_ to sell you something for a quick dollar and it's sad to see the other end of the deal, the people they rip off, their hard-earned cash going to waste.

Great video! You have to remember: "Rare Coins" are rare and valuable because they are rare and valuable! HSN and other marketers need items to sell that are available in large quantities and at such a low cost that can be marked up tremendously. Ask yourself: "How rare can the coins be if they are sold via TV, the Internet, magazines and direct mail?" Save up and buy one or several "rare" coins from a legitimate dealer such as Daniel that will have much more potential than the quarters, halves and dollars that are now cranked out by the US Mint! Do some research and let history be the guide to what's rare and desirable to collectors. Be well! Ed

Unethical and misleading coin sales are the bane of this otherwise hugely rewarding hobby/investment. There is a very steep learning curve for novice numismatists. You do a superb job of educating some of us who might otherwise make a costly mistake during this learning process. I also like how you emphasize that certain types of sets such as paint or hologram decorated coins are fine to collect for fun to post on a shelf but really not with the expectation that value will stay the same or increase. Thanks for posting your enlightening videos.

Please don’t collect this stuff thinking your going to leave it to your family and it is going to be worth something. I now am dealing with this coin collection that was left to my wife and am quickly learning that it’s not worth anything or not much more than money value. The time it’s taking me to deal with this is astronomical and could be spent better elsewhere earning real money. Heck the money spent on this collection would have been better invested instead in the stock market. If you like coin collecting fine. But at least pass on your knowledge and let the people who your leaving this stuff to know it’s true worth. Daniel, great advice. Thanks.

The trouble is these people are isolated and not telling anyone what they're doing. The other day, I went into my local coin shop and there was a man and his daughter selling stacks of silver rounds so that she could get a puppy. After they left I asked the shop owner if they were for sale? He said he was putting them into the scrap bucket. Turns out they were 20-gram rounds with George W on them. Her grandpa was buying these from a TV ad and giving them to her. They were worth only a fraction of what he paid. If he had gone to the coin shop, they could have steered him towards a much smarter purchase that would have held much more value.

my adviice , for new collectors, is simply dont buy expensive high ticket items....you can buy siilver coins for example for just a few bucks if you know where to look, and alot of coins, really neat ones that go for only five, ten , maybe 15 bucks,,... just start modestly....and as you learn what your doing...you can buy higher ticket items....and the reason i suggest silver, is becuase you can at least fall back on the silver content of the coin....so you know it has at least some value...anyways ....thats just my two cents..(pre 1982 cents) gl!

The U.S. Mint sets up a lot of secondary dealer markup prices by selling a coin or a set with a projected low mintage with no household limit. I've tried to get something from the mint that sells out within the first half hour, or less, and then go immediately to EBay and find as many as I want at a huge marked up price. Now, since the Mint has started putting a household limit on their low mintage coins I have received emails and have seen advertisements asking people to buy these coins from the Mint, and then sell them at a small profit to these dealers so that they can turn around and sell them at a big profit.

1st strike means struck within the first month of release which means nothing. The dye for ase's are replaced now and then so I just look at detail, most are probably 69 anyway from the mint .In the old days friends of the director would get first strikes , maybe the first 100 , those were real first strikes ,probably still happens today. These slabs could be 100,000 or more and I have never bought them . But I think you're right as usual not to "invest" in these things .keep it up ,enjoy hearing what you have to say.

I have 80 % of my "stash" in pre 1964 dimes and quarters, 20% in silver Eagles. I buy locally and PAY CASH. Dimes and quarters will be easier to barter with than silver Eagles or ANY gold coins (when the whole shooting match melts down (and if it doesn't before i die, they go to a local pet shelter to be SOLD FOR MAXIMUM GAIN)
@meauxjeaux4315 жыл бұрын
Wow, Same reasoning with me. I just posted this a minute ago...............I have a collection of all kinds of old U.S. coins. I don't collect as an investment as much as I do for an inflation hedge, since my cash only looses money just sitting in the bank. The other reason is for when, not if "IT" happens and paper money is worthless. I am seriously considering redeeming everything, including the silver coins in order to reinvest in dimes only. When "IT" happens, try buying something of value such as food, with that huge 25-50 dollar one dollar coin and see what happens. You sure don't want paper money as change. With dimes, you won't expect or need to get "change" back. You also don't have to convince anybody that your cute little silver "piece" is real silver, and you won't have to convince anybody that your dimes are real. Am I on track with my thinking or not ?
@MrTommyboy685 жыл бұрын
@@meauxjeaux431Yep. I've been saying this for YEARS. Silver Eagles are OK but getting change will be a problem. Dimes work much better as it is a SMALL piece of silver. For the past 2 years I have been buying rolls of dimes, pretty much stopped on the silver Eagles. I remember my history classes and how after WWII you needed a wheel barrow full of marks to buy a loaf of bread. WHEN the "crash" happens, the government WILL be at your bank when you go to open your safe deposit box and take it from you. People think I am nuts, but have NEVER BEEN THIS FRIGHTENED (and I am 64). Things are about to get real ugly. AND DON'T tell anyone you are keeping silver and hide it someplace secure. Good luck and thanks for actually reading my comments and thinking abut it. SMALL silver is the way to go, just avoid paying for "proof" or high dollar uncirculated coins. Circulated is OK because silver is silver.
@meauxjeaux4315 жыл бұрын
@@MrTommyboy68 BIRDS OF A FEATHER ! I'm 66, and as frightened as you, because unlike so many people with their heads in the sand...I PAY ATTENTION ! I will NEVER buy a cute, special, "collector" or uncirculated coin either, because I already have too many of those. all I want is just silver dimes in decent shape...PERIOD ! The biggest problem I have is selling my collection and not getting what it's really worth, and then turning right around and buying dimes at the same value. And NO you are not nuts, unless I am too. My Truck NEVER goes anywhere my 9.mm does not go, and I have several guns, all fully loaded AND chambered in easily accessed places throughout my house. And if that's not enough, my entire outside living area including my house is surrounded by an 8 foot high "Trump wall" !
@meauxjeaux4315 жыл бұрын
@@MrTommyboy68 I don't see somebody trading me more of a product because a coin is shiny, pretty, uncirculated or a collector piece either, because at that point, people won't be looking for "collector" coins, but just silver....PERIOD ! I'm also wanting to keep up with inflation, because banking my cash does NOT work. In the 60s you could buy a loaf of bread with a silver dime...today, with the same exact dime....YOU STILL CAN ! I know that 1st. hand because In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, my dad sold bread house to house and back then, would get paid with silver dimes, quarters, .50c pieces, and even dollar coins, even after '65 because people never valued them. He had lots of foresight because during those 30 years, he kept EVERY silver coin, plus every real old nickles and pennies. I now own his entire collection, including 3 full cigar boxes of wheat pennies.

I really appreciate your advice I am a disabled veteran also just happen to be terminally ill. I don't know much about collecting and sure don't have the money to be ripped off. I am collecting for two reasons well actually three. Reason one I get lots of fun and joy out of it as I am sure most of us stackers do number two I honestly believe we will soon see the dollar become useless have zero value and we the people suffer is great poverty those of us with at least some precious metals will at least have some bater power and last but not least I want to leave my daughter and grandchildren something besides paper money maybe I can influence them to become stackers with me I am putting together a small collection for each of them in hopes they join me what a bunch of fun could we have collecting as a family huh. I would love to contact this channel owner and do some business with you soon!!

Avod the impulse to buy before investigating. Time is money, and disappointment is forgotten sooner than is regret!

I bought some rolled coins on eBay. Some interesting stuff in one. In the other-wheat pennies. A 1943 they advertised so I know this was searched. The first had three Indian head pennies and I figured their value made at least half the cost. The other I felt a bit cheated. But I bought them more for the fun of seeing what’s in them. But I avoid “estate” stuff. A good thing: check eBay feedback and especially any negative feedback. The same complaints will give you an idea what you can expect.

I've seen Franklin Mint selling a collector's book that holds Silver Eagles. They advertise the book is free if you sign up for the monthly plan. Every month they send you a Silver Eagle(1 for each year) for $99 plus S&H. Another I've seen is people trying to convince you to buy special 1oz coins for double or more melt because they hold a "premium". I'm the end, you'll get less then melt.
