I had to chuckle a little bit thinking about my coins. On one hand, my type set is organized. On the other hand, I have an accumulation of coins that I bought just because I liked them or coins I've upgraded from my type set. They're all good coins, and a lot of them are US commemorative coins I bought because I like the design. Either way, they serve the same purpose. I like them and they make me happy to own them.

Around the 9:28 mark - always restore an 81-S that looks like that. 79-S, 80-S, 81-S are just beautiful strikes and many not circulated. Hit the nail on the head there Daniel, and no issue with EZest if you dip it briefly and use your fingers to *gently* remove the residue

Some 65 years ago, my grandfather performed a " magic trick" using an old dirty Ag quarter. He pulled out a glass vial that contained something that looked like molten silver. He used an eye dropper to place a bead on my quarter and voila ! It was instantly transformed into an MS70 look-alike. , the metallic substance was Of course, Mercury or what they called "Quick Silver". I've always wondered what that Mercury treatment did to the Numismatic value ? Did it harm the quarter ? It's definitely much more dangerous to humans. Even the vapors from Mercury are, over time, considered toxic. What would that quarter look like today ?

"Bought coins that they liked" is exactly what a coin collection is. Nothing wrong with the contents, which are a matter of personal taste/interest. The problem here is the haphazard storage which makes you cry for those poor coins.

Now I don't know if I can call myself a "Coin collector" because I buy what I like mostly without rhyme or reason. I must be a coin accumulator instead lol. Well, I do have a complete graded silver state quarter collection and I am working on filling my dansco Lincoln Cent folder, but I also have a lot of loose odds and ends coins too. I'm not offended or anything, I just think calling myself a coin accumulator sounds funny and well appropriate lol.

1861-O is an interesting coin. Confederates captured the mint and made a few coins. There is a die crack that shows if it was Confederate made. Either way, a cool coin. Lots of silver in that lot.

I'd not sell XF/AU Walking Libs for melt, but that's what I get offered, maybe a little bit of a premium but not more than 30-50 cents a coin; common dates of course, mostly 30s and 40s but still, they are in too good of a condition to sell that cheaply, just my opinion.

U showed that coin kinda quick. like scratches or something? No chemists have made a coin Test Kit yet? My definition for a "collection" is if the coins were organized in some kind of fashion. The flips are clean without misc information on it like "misprint". I didn't know you can print a coin. If the collector just dumped the collection in a box with no order then it is an accumulation.

@wandlbaker29 күн бұрын
Still in the intro advert and I agree already. It is NOT a collection...it is just a "gathering" of stuff. Does there NEED to be organization to be a collection? It works better that way.

@robertvirnig63829 күн бұрын
I've got a strange collection of coins that aren't worth enough to sell but not worthless sufficient to throw away or spend. They come as free gifts with purchases of more valuable coins from online dealers. I see where dealers get all these types of coins from these videos. I think this is pretty good business giving away something like a $2 buffalo nickel with a $200 purchase. It reduces the inventory of such coins and such a small act of goodwill may help get repeat customers.

💯 on the take !!! So, can someone tell me what the difference is between cleaning a coin and restoring a coin ? I thought that was a no ,no in the coin realm. Also, how can I tell, or can you tell if it has been restored? Thx. For all the info & content. 💯
@williamgrimes66829 күн бұрын
I think the main difference is that most cleaned coins have been cleaned via an abrasive method leaving hairline scratches, a polished sheen or an off color. Restoring is a non-abrasive method that leaves the surfaces pretty much as struck. I have even seen dipped coins that were fully lustrous. I even saw a guy on another channel that had a coin rejected by CAC for PVC, he dipped it himself and had it regraded and it even got the CAC sticker afterwards. But the coin was a high grade MS. I doubt the coin would have stickered if it were circulated because circulated coins with no dirt or toning at all look unnatural. PCGS and NGC will still give them a numeric grade as long as they are not harshly cleaned but most collectors won't see the coin as desirable.
