I love the Mercury dimes, They are beautiful. Same goes for high grade Walking Liberty halves, Standing Liberty quarters... I metal detect and when those Mercury dimes come up I get real excited.

I love collecting Mercury dimes and I have a 1916 P Ms64 FSB PCGS dime. I think some coins are under appreciated and the Rosie's are a great value uncirculated. I bought a bank wrapped roll of 1960 P dimes and opened up the roll. I kept them and placed them in a plastic roll container. Thanks for a lovely video.

I really like the practice of assigning strike designations, but I wish it were used for more coins, and I wish the whole design was taken into account. Because I see coins with the FBL, FB, & FS that do have that particular design element showing strong, but then something else is weak. Or like you pointed out with one that had the line going all the way across, but it was mushy the whole way. That's not really a superb strike, the die is noticably worn, but just retains enough of a high point between the bands to strike a "full" line even though it's soft. Morgan dollars are one that I think should have a strike designator. The O mints would see a nice premium jump for getting a full strike on spme of those notoriously weak dates. But before I go avocating for making it more complicated, they gotta sort out their consistency issues. I like the computer assisted grading idea. You could even use an AI algortithm to give you comparisons. Say you're grading a classic comemorative, and you haven't dealt with a lot of them... the AI can instantly sluice out numerous comparable coins to show you. (It's not as good of a strike as this one... there's X amount fewer marks than this example) you do just that and the consistency would greatly improve. Doesn't even need to be a fully automated AI grading process. I'm not looking to put people out of a job, I just want them to be able to do it better. Anyways, thanks for this video. It showed a lot of great information that people need to know to look out for. You help so many collectors sharpen their knowledge and become better numismatists every day!

I read somewhere that mint employees would widen the space on the dies where the bands would strike to increase life expectancy of the dies, making full split kind of rare

Thanks Daniel ! Allot of great information. Have to check them bands and torches. Just because it might grade high doesn't mean it will get those designations, then again, might get lucky. On the other hand, do you really want a coin that is designated as having Full Bands if it really doesnt? Use the holder as a reference but buy the coin. I agree on the grading needing computer assistance. It would be allot more consistent across the grading companies that way.

Aloha🤙 I have a slew of old coins dating from 1915-36 buffalo nickels To 1909 -20’s,30’s,40’s & up. A lot with what I believe are worthy errors 👍 I actually found a 56 wheat back in a have a penny leave a penny things on store counters. I have quarter & dime & nickel that are blackish. I got interested in coin collecting during the pandemic 👊🏻 Now I don’t spend ANY OF MY CHANGE UNTIL I inspect it! And even then I probably have more than is worth anything bc I’m not seasoned. I live just south of Boston, Mass & one been seeking out a numismatic who’s not a cheatlmand wld attempt totale advantage of my naiveness

I have an Ms68 full torch 1996-W Westpoint minted dime that I’m very happy with considering that I got it out of a 1996 mint set. I was hoping for a 69 FT or even a 70FT

My 1996W is really an absolutely beautiful coin. I do wonder how it didn’t get a higher than a 68 full torch it’s just that beautiful. It doesn’t have any marks on it that I could find. It’s an NGC graded coin too.

Hi I’ve been an active collector for over 50 years., your videos are very informative, however I was surprised on the Mercury full bands , the 1945 was not discussed, ? A real strike rarity Also I have seen some 1942 proofs not FSB , probably toward the end of production
@jeffw12674 күн бұрын
There are some proof Mercury dimes that do not have full split bands. They're rare, but they exist. Most proof Mercury dimes have fully split AND rounded bands, and that's what I want in a business strike. Some FB designated Mercs are technically fully split, but the width of the division between them is not consistent, and the bands themselves look two dimensional. One must avoid this when spending big money on early FB dimes.

Brother I thought about full band dimes and every time I do that without even looking on line by way of the Internet with any thought it pops up on the Internet. Something is amiss and God knows and I bet he doesn't like it either. 🤨 And I don't like it. 💔✝️❤️🩹✌️
