What I found to make my rings fold with the same shape around is to file the reed ridge that will be on the inside. Making it closer to the same thickness as the center of the coin. Doing this before any folding has started. Because it’s twice as thick as the center it makes it harder to fold.

Not just from understanding the end to end process, but being able to see where a mistake can happen and how to avoid it? Thanks for sharing!

A few of my very first attempts at coinring making turned out this way. I learned that the cause was that my 6 ton Harbor Freight press was not pushing straight down, has anybody had the same issue with the HF press?

any suggestions for protecting inside of rings when your stretcher doesn't have a smooth mandrel , mine is stair stepped for the different sizes and seems to mark up the coin as you work it down even with the bag

Unfortunately good tools are the best solution there. A cheap Chinese or Indian made stretcher from Amazon would go a long way to solving that.

I have a question, sometimes when making coin rings just say with the half dollars one will come out perfect and then the next one the reeded edge of the coin will have a big wave in it I have exhausted myself out of option on trying to figure out why this happens and tips I cannot figure out how to post a picture on here but, the ring looks good and probably not noticeable to your average person but it's the only thing I notice
@CoinRingsfromTheMint7 жыл бұрын
+joshua hopson It can be a lot of things. Not annealing enough can be part of it.also a bad die can give inconsistent results. Also 40% silver halves always seem to do that regardless :)

I keep running into this problem, every time i go to reduce the coin it turns out wobbly. Is it because im using the die that came with my ring stretcher? its one of the blue grayish ones im guessing its a chinese one.

I’m really struggling with wobbly and crooked coins at the moment! It’s like I end up with one side thicker than the other as soon as I do the initial fold. It’s like one side is squashed. If I can get that out then when I’m reducing later I seem to end up with an uneven press, one side is straight, the opposite has a tilt or the whole thing leans off centre. It’s really bugging me and I can’t work out what I’m doing wrong. I feel everything is lined up properly and I’m exerting equal pressure just one side is affected more - sorry for the rant just having a nightmare. Any ideas would be great! Thanks man, love the videos!
@CoinRingsfromTheMint6 жыл бұрын
+Willanski It sounds like you might have an off centered hole, or your press isn't plumb. Either that or you are using that bad die plate that comes with the cheap ring stretchers. Any one if those issues could be causing your problem

what I've learned, is if the hole is not centered perfectly this happens also after you stretch it shrink the cut side just slightly to even the reeded side up and this evens out the top after that sand the cut side down on a flat surface that makes the cut side even. now you can work the ring alot easier. if that makes sense. I should make a video on this
@CoinRingsfromTheMint7 жыл бұрын
+matman8736 That is very true. I didn't think to mention that because the availability of centering cards that people still get off centered holes.
