All pawnbrokers in the UK offer awful prices for gold, and sell poor quality coins with a huge mark up. Complete rip off merchants!

It's quite disturbing to realise that there is an whole industry out there, who's business appears to be, slowly churning through the historical stock of gold coins and defacing them all.

This is because when you buy it the shop/dealer "sells it to you as a coin" - but when you sell it back to the shop/dealer they consider it scrap metal, just weight & carat. It's the only business I know of that can get away with it. Not to mention the VAT & CGT . . .

What I do not understand about H&T is why they can not have a Sigma Precious Metal Verifier in each store thus no need to damage the coins. They can be had for about £1000 each so about £280k in total. The Shops made just under £10m Pre-tax Profit in the 1st half of 2024. They other way around is to have better training of their Staff especially the Manager in each store

We have never tried to log the percentages, but overall it is probably around 1%.

What’s the point of the new Hatton Garden branch, no website and not available to the general public, with Sharps Pixley you can just turn up and buy with cash or card. ??
@lawrencechard591417 сағат бұрын
@@Jimmyredcab It does not need its own website, and it's only a representative office, not intended to replicate our Blackpool head office. It is open to the general public, but by appointment, as in Blackpool for the past few years. This is to ensure we have the space and human resources to devote to callers, while still handling our usual daily volume of phone enquiries, online orders, buy-ins, despatch, etc. 😎

I bought 5/6 sovereigns from H+T about 4years ago. They all seem to have a different finish than usual sovereigns. I would describe the finish on these coins as gloss rather than matt. They are all the older variety, not the rose gold type. I checked their weights and did a “ping” test and all seemed ok. I came to the conclusion that they had been gold plated. However, ‘I could be wrong’. Very interesting video cheers.

Sure they not proof sovereigns not bullion?
@richardwraithmell461421 сағат бұрын
@@tattoedmatthanks for your reply. No, definitely not proof coins….unfortunately! If they were I would be a very rich man. The coins I am describing have all the usual marks and scratches too. Something not right about them though. Cheers

They are likely to have been ex jewellery sovereigns that at one point have been mounted in a pendant, thus they will have a polished look to the surface.

Damm 55% of the value for a full sovereign so if you go sell a half sovereign how much the going to 30%??? What scammers I'm getting angry now!!!

Apparently, they also pay 55% of intrinsic, so pro rata with the sovereigns.

This is silly. Pawnbrokers offer a credit service. They obviously require collateral and must surely protect their business by validating the collateral. This could have been done many years ago. When were those expensive machines even available commercially ? A long time ago, my father pawned jewellery without my mums permission when he needed instant cash. He redeemed it within time and paid the pawnbroker's charges at the agreed price. That was a legal transaction entered into by one party- to keep away the bailiffs, and by the other party to make a profit. I have no love of pawnbrokers but I am suprised you are misrepresenting the facts. You are much older than me and I cannot believe you don't understand why people use the very ancient trade of pawnbroking . Please just wear a smart shirt in future, your attire makes you look like the caretaker. I admire your knowledge, please dress with dignity. From Yorkshire, you're favourite county . Best wishes for new year.
@lawrencechard591418 сағат бұрын
I am not misrepresenting the facts. Apart from making loans at high interest rates, most pawnbrokers also buy and sell as in this example. I feel I have earned the luxury of wearing what I choose to wear, and the tee-shirts and sweatshirts I wear in KZbin videos are custom designed with some of my mantras. The next will be a photo of our unique 2023 brockage gold sovereign, once I have chosen the colourways. 😎
