It is indeed an "Issue of National Security" ... military intervention is very much needed. A clear and decisive message needs to be issued to ALL involved in the trade locally and internationally that Fiji will not take this epidemic laying down. Tough times call for tough measures ... Clean Up Our Streets, Clean up Fiji ... so many lives have already been affected.

May I suggest compulsory military enlistment. at 16 years old like other nations do at 17_ 18 years old. Military training makes a difference in the growing youths. It prepares the people for what could entails the real world and life.

You dont declare publicly that you dont agree with the Commander, thats for you Col to take it on close doors. When you speak in a public space, agreement should be already made. However well done to military for stepping up to solve these drug issues!

Like everyone, I agree that the state of drugs in Fiji is alarming and something needs to be done. But I am wondering if we need more legislations. A few questions that I believe we need to ask: - doesn’t current legislation already empower police to deal with this? - do we need to escalate this and add arms into the situation. - Are we trying to use the wrong tool for the job. - is there not enough for army to do? On the first point, I think this is the remit of the Police force as they are trained for this. Maybe creat a better resourced, skilled and equipped task force - in the Police. The question of using arms. The favelas have shown it does not work. It only means that the criminals then also take up arms and this results in human collateral and just gets messy without solving much. It is our own children we’ll be shooting. Soldiers are trained and equipped for soldiering. Analogy; when doing home decorations, if you need more painters, you higher more painters. You don’t hire plasterers and then train them as painters. On the last question, if there is not enough work to do in the army, then maybe the army is too big. When our national debt is too high, what is the return on investment here. I dont know… so I’m asking. I think the solution to this is in every home. “The family unit”. Is it functioning correctly and serving its purpose. Or, are there other things thats taking us away from our parental obligations. These criminals come from a home. Maybe let’s start there.

Dont use firearms to deter drugs in Fiji

Tackling drug problem is ( 1 ) good salary.. hourly rate pay to increase to $6.50 and not $6.00 which is about to introduce by the current government. ( 2 ) identify the root cause of getting into drugs.. simple, its poverty rate.pepole need money for needs and wants. Second, they need a good capital to resort to there vision of future endeavour. Using firearms is very poor and poverty vision. I believe that is their only standard of level of thinking. Vinaka

The previous government was so feared that these criminal elements were reluctant to boost their evil business. Now, with this weak coalition outfit, it's open season in Fiji's criminal underworld....😅
