Cola Blanca is pretty good. We had the owners drop by our mezcaleria here in Tucson this past week. Not complicated, but it was good.

True. Not very complex but very enjoyable.

Hell yeah!! I’m loving this series!!! I’m learning so much more new stuff!! Isn’t the agave angustifolia species what maguey espadín is? I don’t know if that maguey name is just region based, but if not, wouldn’t that make maguey Pacifica a sort of region-based maguey Espadín? I don’t know if that’s how it works. I’m just wondering.

Watch the video. I explain it. Its in the same family as espadin and Tequiliana. They are all part of the angustafollia family with the sword like leaves.

@@TheTequilaHombre Ah! I figured it out. Here’s what was missing: Agave Angustifolia is a plant species. Agave Angustifolia var. Espadín is a variety of agave Angustifolia. Agave Angustifolia var. Pacifica is a variety of agave Angustifolia. Agave Angustifolia subs. Tequilana (a.k.a. maguey Azul) is a subspecies of agave Angustifolia. A plant species is a group of plants that can reproduce with one another and produce fertile offspring. A variety is (usually) a group of plants of the same species that uniquely share physical traits different from the rest of the plant species. A subspecies is a variety of the plant species that is also geographically separated from the rest of the plant species. Note: a plant of a subspecies cannot interbreed with the rest of its species by natural means due to the geographical separation. Human intervention would be needed.

@@TheTequilaHombre So, I really had it backwards. Taxonomically, agave Tequilana is a region-exclusive and physical based classification of a type of Agave Angustifolia, whereas agave Pacifica is solely a physical-based classification of a type of agave Angustifolia, as agave Pacifica must be growing within the natural geographical reach of other types of agave Angustifolia plants (not necessarily the Espadín type).

@@PanchoKnivesForever angustafolia is a class of agave. Espadin and Pacifica are part of the Angustafolia family and Tequiliana is a closely related cousin. Espadin and Pacific are angustafolia that is regional specific. All three do have sword like pencas that fits them in the same class of agave. Espadin is sword in spanish and is named for the sword like pencas. Irs like Lions, Tigers and house cats are all part of the Feline family but different.

@@PanchoKnivesForever Agave Chato that is used as Caballito Cerrero is also part of the Angustafolia family. It also has sword like pencas. All three are not the same though. Just part of the same class of agave.

Interesting, I've not yet tried a Bacanora but will do so when I come across some. I did grab an agave release from Puru by Aqara - Agave de Los Andes Plateado. Have you tried it? I'm not loving it. It's hot w some off notes. Maybe it'll open. Salud.
