The story Stephen didn’t want Howard to tell was talked about on Stern’s show a couple days ago. Howard offered to give the first interview to Stephen before Jimmy because Stephen has better ratings. But Stephen knew that Howard and Jimmy were really close friends and Stephen told Howard to do Jimmy’s show first because he knew Jimmy needed the ratings and because of how close they were. That says so much about Stephen and how friends and relationships come before ratings. That says so much about Stephen’s character. Great interview by the way!

It does say so much about Stephen - I knew that the story must show Stephen in a good light and that's why he demured. He probably didn't want to call attention to either of their ratings either.

If you guys were wondering what the story Stephen didn't want Howard to tell, it was about his appearance on The Tonight Show with Fallon. In his radio show leading up to the promotional tour of his book Howard talked about dreading going on talk shows and two of the talk shows that wanted him on were Colbert and Fallon. Howard is friendly to both Colbert and Fallon and Howard thought that if he went on one show before the other that it might seem he's showing favoritism, that is not the case. He ended up doing a coin flip to see which show he would do first and the winner was Colbert. A few weeks later Howard was back on the radio talking about how bad and stressed he feels about doing Fallon's show second, although if Fallon won the coin toss he would feel bad that he was doing Stephen's show second. Stephen heard him on the radio and called Howard (off air)and told him to do Fallon first and he's OK with it. Howard actually tells this story on his appearance on Fallon.

Howard did what he had to do for the ratings, he did get too engrossed in it at times, offended many by saying that wrong things, which he usually admits to now with regret. @@boomieboo The Howard of the 2000s and to the present is a reasonable guy. It's hard to hate a reasonable person. But before that he was indeed racist and misogynistic and would say anything on the air for attention. That is the Howard that people that hate Howard are referring to. They either don't understand that he has changed or they don't care and don't forgive him. @@boomieboo Sorry your wrong. How many times do you have to see Stern tear apart someone that went on his show. If he tore into someone who could fight back it would be OK. The problem with Stern he only picked in weak people because he is a coward. He would hurt weak people for profit and entertainment. If you like to see weak people hurt your a piece of shit. Now he is going to be nice. Fuck him. When he gives away his money and leaves everyone who loves and works for people who are truly wounded, he can then write a book apologizing for being an ass.

So proud of Howard, He's evolved so much as a person. When people act like assholes, toward other people just for a laugh, it's almost always about there own insecurities. Howard has always been a comedic genius and one of the greatest interviewers of our time. After years of psychotherapy and addressing different forms of trauma from his childhood, he has a more positive outlook on life. Howard, now understands that his parents did the best they could, and that's all any of us are capable of. My own personal background has so many similar parallels to Stern, which is why I always found him relatable....In my opinion, he has managed to use his popularity and influence to become an advocate for therapy. There's always been such as negative stigma attached to mental health. Love is the greatest medicine there is. There's no better feeling than the human touch from people you connect with. Freeing the mind is freeing the soul! I love you Howard

Stern should be taken out and castrated. When you did not like him you were sain. Was it drug addiction that destroyed your mind. Stern has done nothing but make money off of abusing everyone in his life. Now he thinks he can say sorry I had a bad couple of decades. Give away all of your money Howard and work in a slum for the rest of your life. Unless you give up everything that you have gotten including your wife and kids you have no fucking value.

A truly fantastic interview. One of the all-time greats in radio turning a late night appearance into what feels like an abridged radio broadcast. The honesty with which Howard and Steven talk about wanting to make their respective mothers happy when they were depressed really hits hard. Truly gonna be one of the great interviews from this show. Still want to hear Howard's story that he wasn't allowed to tell, but it still was amusing to watch two seasoned interviewers wrestle for control for a moment there.

I have been listening to him since NBC days and he has kept me as a fan because he had grown up a bit . I too have grown up . You have to evolve to remain relevant and Howard has. He is different now, instead of being the underground outsider , like the early Metallica years , He had become more of a hit with celebrities. His interviews have been the difference. He made satellite radio what it is singlehandedly. Great interview. I like both Howard and Stephen 👍

Howard Stern is a legend. America just wouldn't be the same without him. Unless you've followed him from the beginning you really genuinely have no idea how important he is to many, many people. We're talking about the lifeblood of America, everyone from truckers to firefighters to cops idolize the guy. He was there for 9/11. Go watch the rebroadcast/special they did on that day. People were telling him he should evacuate, go home, because they didn't know where the terrorists were going to strike next and he was IN NEW YORK CITY. He was like "No, this is too important. The people need me."
