Listening to this song definitely hurts me now that I’m in my 20s. Used to like how this song sounded when I was a kid and teenager, not knowing or caring what this song was really about. I was out of town when this song randomly started playing in my head. It had been a decade since I'd heard it or even thought of it since I was a child, but there it was. So I came home, and that night I looked this song up to listen to it. Sad thing is I know exactly why this song is in my head. I've been trying to keep this a secret from everyone, including myself, but lately I have been falling HARD for someone. I never thought I could end up with a crush this way, but alas, 2 years of being friends and it's a shock when you realize you are developing feelings. I never thought I could wind up this helpless in this regard- telling a crush you aren't close friends with is easier, you put yourself out there, and if you get accepted, great, and if you are rejected, you feel sad but move on. If it is a close friend, exposing your feelings means risking the friendship, and I absolutely cannot lose this friend. I find the more I deny the fact I have a crush, the stronger and more desperate it gets. It is no coincidence the characters in the novel I am writing fell for each other only a couple months earlier. The course the stories I write take always reflect my subconscious and my life scenarios, and once I was able to fully admit to myself (but not fully accept) that I have a crush, this song was immediately in my head. It is honestly terrifying falling for someone, it's such an incredibly helpless feeling you can neither control nor ignore. I didn't choose this, it just.. happened, I don't know how else to explain it. I liked this song as a kid, but with them in mind, it hits so differently. The lyrics are so relatable, I can't find a way to describe the intensity of this. The best friend I ever had, want to tell them but am unwilling to risk it, keep having these fantasies, and I know I am falling hard. I keep ending up with these emotional outbursts where I end up basically saying "I love you" without actually saying the words- I spend a lot of time thinking about them, and honestly I have no idea what to do here. I've been waiting my whole life for such a good friend, and I absolutely cannot risk the friendship, regardless of the circumstances. The worst part is, I am a person with strong opinions, and I didn't believe you could develop feelings online, and I kept saying that, but now here I am with an online crush! Just a friend I met through an online game, which makes it even worse. I refuse to online date, will need to wait several years until we can meet in real life, and I don't know if we can make it that far, especially as I prep for college life. So saying it can't do anything for me for several more years at least, but trying to keep this intense of a crush locked up is agony. To think they don't feel the same way is painful because that alone could destroy the friendship by making things extremely awkward between us, and if they do feel the same way, well, we are a thousand miles away from each other and we can't do anything about it. Also, neither of us need romantic drama right now- we both are dealing with a lot in real life. That's my dilemma. I'm leaning towards thinking that my best bet is to keep bottling my feelings, but frankly I am unsure. Chances are I'll hold them in until one night I am super exhausted and then just break, tell them everything, and fate will take its course, but I honestly don't know anymore. We already talk at least twice a day and he is the sole person I can truly confide in and vent to. What will likely happen is one night when I am overtired I'll end up texting him a long-overdue confession, and life will take its course from there. One day, maybe we can get together, but who knows.
