It's 2022 and still relevant . This song helps me so much to cope with social anxiety . I mean, look at us nowadays . Too much pressure from society and peers. To be 'perfect' or just like the material person they wanted. This song makes me burst out into tears and make me realize, " do i even like myself? "

I cry every time I listen to this song. I'm a man, 61 years old, and this speaks to my child within , my little Kevin who never felt good enough. I'm so grateful for this song. I just watched the video for the first time and it hit me even harder. Bravo.

Me too. 65 here, male. I like people because of who they are, not their appearance. I think that young girls these days (my young daughter, was blessed with her late in my life, seems to have listened to me on this, to an extent) think they know what men 'want', but they really don't. We aren't all monsters. We sure don't all like one 'type'.

It's that you shouldn't try to be someone you're not, or feel the need to cover up and add fake things in order to feel like you're beautiful. If you ask a lot of women, they're going to tell you that they don't feel pretty without makeup, or hair extensions, or fancy clothing, or fake nails, or a plethora of other things that society deems necessary for a woman to be considered attractive. THAT is what this video is addressing. It's not saying "Don't exercise!", "Don't work hard in life!", or "Don't try to be the best person you can be!" It's saying "Love the skin you're in without needing all of the additives to make yourself feel pretty! You're beautiful as you are, and the only approval you should need to feel attractive, is your own!" The point is that women should love themselves naturally, and feel comfortable not having to put on a different face in order for the world to accept them.

This is a song that resonates with everyone, but from a guy's perspective, it's incredibly powerful. We often feel the pressure to be strong, stoic, and always in control. This song reminds us that it's okay to let go, to show our vulnerabilities, and to simply be ourselves. It's a beautiful message of self-acceptance and embracing your true self, imperfections and all.

Here we are, listening to a song that urges us not to hate ourselves, and we have people comparing these women. I WISH songs like these could change the world, but the fact is that people will be mean whether you're natural, dolled up, or something in between. You just have to do what the hell you want to do, and say screw everyone else. Want to be bare-faced and not comb your hair? Do it, and be super confident! Want to beat the hell out of your face and throw on a wig? Do it, and be super confident!

This hits REALLY HARD. I've been planning surgeries like a nose job, BBL, and skin whitening, desperately seeking validation. I believed altering my appearance would make me worthy of love and not just a second option. These feelings cause from years of internalizing societal expectations and personal experiences of rejection. Societal pressures have amplified these insecurities, making me feel I need to change who I am to be loved. It's sparked my journey of self-discovery and healing, encouraging me to challenge the idea that my value depends on others' perceptions.

I had acne and never wore makeup until 12th grade.didnt have a phone until 11th grade. Had one or two friends but never talked deeply or hung out with. People never really cared because they all had their social cliques. I was the odd one out. Didn't participate in anything, wasn't athletic, emo,smart, couldn't connect with anyone. Didn't care what anyone thought, didn't let my parents worry and I graduated and moving on to my college life just pursuing what I love because at the end of the day you love yourself! Yes I had insecurities, people looked at me poorly, always asked me are you okay. I always answered I was okay and deep down I wasnt. I didn't even try belonging into because I didn't wanna be fake. So it takes time too!take care of youself!♡

Disagreed with the 'making yourself beautiful is not you' part. I think if wearing make up makes you happy, feel free. Just dont feel forced to 'become pretty' for someone, or society. Be however you want, and that includes making efforts to transform into your ideal self. If that requires some make up or stuff like that, so be it?

I've overcome my appearance anxiety, and can finally fully embrace my looking now. Suffering from self-criticism and take others' mocking too seriously can really distort one's personality, and destroy his or her mental condition. When I was listening to this song, I couldn't help but shed tears. Yeah, knowing how to cherish, trust and rely on ourselves is a valuable ability. Others' opinions and suggestions should only be viewed as recommendation, it's me that decide to take it or not, and only I can define the value of those words. Sincerely, I wish myself had got this point earlier.

Lyrics : Put your make up on Get your nails done Curl your hair Run the extra mile Keep it slim So they like you. Do they like you? Get your sexy on Don't be shy, girl Take it off This is what you want, to belong So they like you. Do you like you? You don't have to try so hard You don't have to give it all away You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up You don't have to change a single thing You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try Yoooou don't have to try Ooooo, oooooo, oooooo... Get your shopping on, At the mall, Max your credit cards You don't have to choose, Buy it all So they like you. Do they like you? Wait a second, Why should you care, what they think of you When you're all alone, by yourself Do you like you? Do you like you? You don't have to try so hard You don't have to give it all away You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up You don't have to change a single thing You don't have to try so hard You don't have to bend until you break You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up You don't have to change a single thing You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try Yoooou don't have to try Oooooo, oooooo Oooooo, oooooo You don't have to try so hard You don't have to give it all away You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up You don't have to change a single thing You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i You don't have to try You don't have to try Take your make up off Let your hair down Take a breath Look into the mirror, at yourself Don't you like you? Cause I like you

Wow….I have 5 daughters and with the 2/3rd we listened to and sang along to Colbie Caillat, Michelle Branch and their like. This is a very touching video and song for it is what my wife and daughters sometimes feel they have to do. They are always enough the way they are. I wish they could feel and understand that. Love this song.

I see people commenting on whether guys like girls with makeup or not...this isn't about what men like, this is about being confident with who you are and not hating your natural appearance. Its ok to like to wear makeup, although I personally choose not to wear it cuz I hate the feel of it on my face, but its not ok to feel ugly without it. Forget what men do or do not like and live for yourself and love yourself

Bullshit. It is ONLY about what the opposing gender wants. If men didn't want a physically ideal woman, then women wouldn't feel the need to value or compete amongst each other based on appearance. It's the same for men, we want to be rich, drive a fancy car and be the king of the hill. We do it for each other, we just want to make the other sex happy while proving we are the best our gender has to offer. Why else would people care about natural beauty? Ethically it is the best beauty, of which some women want to use to distinguish themselves, they still want to be the best of the beautiful. But sadly ethics can never trump the primal desires of our lizard brain. Men will still be attracted to red lips, flawless skin and whatever else indicates the chance for healthy offspring. And women will still be attracted to the confident king of the hill who has adequate resources for raising a family. inb4 "queer" "trans" "gender queer" "gender spectrum". Yes, I know, but you get the picture.
@Cheekydr410 жыл бұрын
Dave of course we all want to be attractive, but when everything you do is run by your desire to please the opposite sex than thats when there's a problem. Women have an issue where they hate their appearance, and when I say hate I mean HATE because they feel like they won't be loved without all the extra. That's an unhealthy state of mind. Women should be able to look at themselves in the mirror and truly love who God made them to be. I don't wear makeup even though many guys tell me I look really pretty with it. Sure that attention is nice, but I dont live for it. I dont wear it cuz I don't like it. Of course that means I take care of my skin and what not, but the decisions I take to make myself feel comfortable have nothing to do with what men want, cuz honestly I am not alive to please men. I'm happy with who I am, and I think this video is very powerful in a sense that it reaches out to girls that feel like they aren't good enough

This song hit hard... bullied all my life at school and at home by an abusive father being told no one will ever love me and want me.... now I have a wonderful fiancee who calls me beautiful everyday and a gorgeous step daughter who I co parent with for the last nearly 10 years. Dolling yourself up can feel good but you don't have to or need to. Be yourself and love yourself. ❤️ Listening to this in 2023!!

I'm so emotional over this song. I almost broke down in tears. I've been bullied, too and in high school I never had guys saying I was pretty, (one told me I was pretty ugly) while they rated the other girls saying that they were hot or beautiful and those were the popular girls. I peaked after highschool and started getting more attention from guys, but now I am too fatigued to get up and look "presentable" like my grandma tells me all the time. Gotta wear makeup to look presentable at least. I don't like makeup and I only like to wear it on special occasions or when I want to try it as something new. I gained weight because of my thyroid going low. I haven't been eating well because of it. It sucks living in such a society.

I know how you feel I was bullied my whole elementary and nearly whole highschool...I wasn't thinking of myself as someone who is pretty...nor anything...I hated my forehead being shown...so I cut off my long hair when I was 18 and I hated my mole on the cheek I wanted to erase...it...sadly...I didn't like my face at all...before...after a long time I realized I liked it later...
