So is it the Chevy Chevette, Or the Chevy Monza that is the absolute worse stinker of a car GM ever built? I always thought riding in a Chevette felt like riding in a coffin. But I owned an '80 Monza, and it went faster. But in a more terrifying way. At least when it ran. lol

Chevettes are really papular in Brazil as rear wheel drive cars are way to expensive (apart from VW Beatles and Chevettes) but they never came with Diesel engines in Brazil.

Super cool to see chevettes out there. I had gotten a 1.6l with a 4 speed (engine and trans only). I put them in an electric 1984 cushman. I had also gotten a 1.4l engine and made mi own intake manifold to run 2 Mikuni snowmobile carbs. Runs really good actually. Id lime to have an entire car now lol

Is the winter traction noticeably worse on the diesel than on a gas Chevette? due to the heavier engine in the nose? Is it easy to find Chevettes with posi? Why do open diffs even exist? I have a Metro, the Chevette's step grand niece, made in Canada as was my B200 van apparently, and despite Canadian winters, I hear there's no such thing as a Metro with posi. And in my case, the tiny engine doesn't help traction with FWD. Even my 4WD Dodge W150 has no posi. Why anyone would bother with all the added complexity of 4wd and then neglect posi is beyond me.
@ChevettesoftheCanadianNorth
@ChevettesoftheCanadianNorth Жыл бұрын
The diesel engine is about a extra 100 pounds over the gas setup. The diesel is great for winter driving, except the heat would suck, unless you blocked the rad. Starting up for cold weather, plug in the engine block heater, and all 4 glow plugs working prop, would be a must.

I wonder if an AMR 500 supercharger would be a good fit . It can handle up to a 2 liter gasoline engine and typically puts out 3 to 5 pounds of boost on a standard pulley . Not much mind you but you don't want to overstress the engine . Of course there is parasitic loss but no turbo lag .

It had either 49 or 50 hp. The gas had two sizes, 1.6 and 1.4. The bigger one had over 10 more than the diesel. I had a diesel with 3 speed auto. Its top speed on level ground was 56 mph. The gas ones could do 65 . Back in 1986 mine was an 81. They wanted, everywhere, $40 for a new air cleaner. Everyone else was paying like $3.99 for other cars. I washed mine in the kitchen sink. I didn’t have the money. A full tank of gas cost me $10, and that was all I had usually then
