Cold Air Deep Powder by John Banovich

Wildlife painter John Banovich spent a great deal of time this large canvas to be shown at the YellowStone Club In December 2012. This video shows the stages and thoughts of John's background in his master piece as well as a sneak added to the end of the video from the actual unveiling of the painting itself.

Viewed from a third world country that used to be in the first world 100 years ago, everything about the U.S. seems to be gigantic. Gigantic studio, gigantic painting, giganting place where it is being exhibited. Greetings from my 7 feet by 10 feet studio!

Very cool John, but My favorite painting is the Bull elephant you were painting when Frank and I did the remodel downstairs. You were painting it and it amazed me that it was so large you had to spin it upside down so you could paint the top of the painting. I believe it was 9 foot by 9 foot Love seeing all your new paintings.

cool.. i find his paintings to be so boring though.. they lack emotion.. garish color and way to detailed in parts that should be subordinated.. nonetheless i have respect for someone with his technique because of the sheer time and talent he has..

Exactly. He's definitely great ....but a "great" what? a "great" illustrator or a"great" artist.? What's the point of going through all that: Field study in Africa, expensive canvas linen , sizing and priming it..then churning out work that looks just like a colour photograph? He is definitely a great illustrator. The late German ,Wilhelm Kuhnert was a great wildlife 'artist'. All his animals had character, style, and his canvases were so 'painterly ' and expressive. But I enjoy seeing Mr. Banovich's stuff.

You two crack me up ! Look up " Secret Knowledge" by David Hockney and then take another look . I get what you mean . But when you watch the Hockney film you'll have your eyes opened. I know I did.
