Making phone calls to random weld bosses is the absolute worst. Lol. Although like you said it's part of the job. Definitely worth it tho. I myself practice what the conversation could go like over and over. Weird but true. Even if the person on the phone says ah no man we're fulled up at the moment. He/she will remember you next time you reach out in hopes of work. Great video 👍.

I wanted to be a weldor when I was a kid. My bestfriend's family owned a welding shop in our home town. His dad and his uncle's all went Union Steamfitters. I wound up joining the Elevator Constructors Union at age 24. I've been working full time for 15 years. I passed the Mechanics Exam in 2011, turned out as a journeyman shortly thereafter. I've been a foreman (MIC) for 5 years. I do heavy repairs out of a service rig and train new apprentices. It's rewarding work, great compensation and we've been booming out here in California for 7 years. I encourage any young people to go to trade school or join an apprenticeship program.

I worked as a recruiter for engineers and executives in the tire, rubber, and plastics industries for a couple of years. Requirement was 85 cold calls a day. I also owned my own construction company for about 10 years. I sweated a lot more during those two years than I did in all 10 years of South Texas summer construction work! lol... I agree with everything said here. Suggestion: when respecting the time of the person you're calling, it's really simple, but be sure to say (or ask) something like, "Do you have about a minute and a half for me to ask you a couple of questions?" perhaps even better is "do you have about 85 seconds for me to ask you a couple of questions?" I really like what you've done here for your colleagues, Austin!!! Blessings, young man.

I’m still hustling I’ve been a long time viewer of Austin and Kaylas and you have been very helpful through videos and actual advice. But Austin saying expect no for an answer is the truth but even if it’s a no you still plant a seed of that weld boss or someone high up with the contractor or Union and it shows initiative that you want to go to work. I made a fatal mistake by saying no thank you to a job offer last year for numerous reasons, not knowing the answers to the questions I had but it’s something that no one should give up on if you want something if it be pipelining or any job.and I hustled for over a year prior to that knowing absolutely no one in Pipeline work and I’m still hustling. Thank you for the videos Austin

Being an Independent Contractor for the Railroad, I've had to do several "cold calls". I HATE trying to sell myself over the phone. Luckily my name & reputation has helped in several situations.

Unless he doesn't like you. Then you're that A**H**E, he wishes would leave his daughter alone. Not a good strategy. Unless you get it ABSOLUTELY right. Also , if you break up, it is a again a burned bridge. It's a winner, if you get it right. Get a little wrong , and you blow it in spades.

I just got the opportunity to weld a stainless cleaning apparatus for an industrial food plant that I work at. No certs required just experience. Hopefully this is my first foot through the door for my welding career. Great info in the video though

Hey Austin! I’m constantly watching your videos but I have many questions! I’m new in welding, currently in College for my AWS Certifications and CWI and testing in all the codes, but I am interested in the pipelines because it’s a family heritage, but I’m nervous because I don’t know what I ought to be prepared for, what I need to know in depth, and much more, I am a 1st generation welder however so I have no one in my family that had experience and I am looking for major and minor pointers; currently living in Kansas on the Oklahoma border so there isn’t many jobs where I can only go to school for Welding and have a part time job to get job experience because the nearest jobs for welding is either Wichita or OKC which are 1-2 hours aways.

@jrneff97735 жыл бұрын
cody me myself I welded in local fab shops since 1994 that makes me 43 yrs old looking on the you tube how 25 yr old weld pipe and if asked to turn a wrench to the left they don't know how I am going to get back into pipe cause it pays fair and in and out local shops I been in there forever see the same old crap then when the boss retires your out of a job over and over. just practice be able to move well and work harder than the next guy.

It takes up to 5 years to sell yourself in the business to finally get reliable dividends from that selling . It is a constant, selling yourself to the end of your career . Dropping names can help . Relating former jobs helps , your reputation precedes you. Get on the fore mans call list . If you don't call they don't know who you are and won't call you . God hates a coward
