I'm sorry but the message in that email mentioned around 32 mins really bugged me. "I don't understand what part of the atonement Joyce's kids don't understand"? A. He MURDERED their mom, and continues to make them relive the trauma with continued hearings and trials. That's not something that you can just forgive and forget. If you haven't been in their shoes you don't have room to talk. B. They don't share his religion, so they shouldn't be expected to "understand the atonement" and believe as he does. C. Even IF Doug has really repented and been forgiven by God, that doesn't mean he is exempt from the consequences of his actions or that he isn't a danger to society.

The way he continues to torture the family is savage. This case might be unique. The victim testified in court and was murdered and the body disposed of. Comes across as if everyone in authority understands the common goal, to keep him from walking freely amongst us. Because he kills anyone who gets in his way and he has a long list of people who got in his way.

It is hardly unique - if you look at the Utah criminal code (one of the conditions that id defined as creating aggravated murder ) - The murder was committed for the purpose of: preventing a witness from testifying; retaliating against a person for testifying, providing evidence, or participating in any legal proceedings or official investigation; or disrupting or hindering any lawful governmental function or enforcement of laws; On top of that I'd guess at the time of the murder JL was already a felon on the basis of the rape conviction (there might be legal subtleties - so this is not a known fact ) Finally there was premeditation prior to the murder - the business with Billy Jack and also getting Rhonda to drive him over to Joyce's address. The discovery of the rusted shotgun and ammunition basically proves that the Billy Jack story is valid. JL admitted to the murder then retracted it and there is no body to prove that his original admission was valid. However there is witness testimony from R Butters that he likely did commit the crime. Joyce is known to be dead because of all the blood found on the reverse side of the mattress. The question is not whether an aged J Lovell is likely to kill anyone else connected with the case but the application of Utah law based on what he has been proven to have done or what he admitted to doing.
