Those C15s always start up very well. My dads truck has a C15 with a single turbo and in cold weather here in the Wlliamette Valley in Oregon his C15 always starts right up on the first try without even plugging it in. And his never ever smokes at all!

Word to the wise, when cold starting always push you clutch in and hold it long enough to at least let some oil get into the head. It saves in your starter motor and puts less strain on your engine because with the truck in neutral your engine is still spinning your transmission internals. If cold starts are a must, we have learned in Canada that there is a certain way of going about it. All these guys saying it sounds unhappy have obviously never seen a cold start at -20 Celsius or below 😭 Love you're truck BTW, sounds like she's running just fine! 👊

Thanks for the advice, to be honest I didn't know that
@matthewperry13084 жыл бұрын
@@charliec901-t3v I only learned that because someone older and wiser taught me LoL I honestly bet it would of fired better second or third try with clutch pushed in. Also you did the right thing by not idling it up right away, that's another common mistake for sure, I learned that one the hard way too. If anyone wants to argue with why you do it that way, you can put some engine oil and transmission fluid in the freezer over night and pour it onto a cookie sheet to prove the point. I started a C15 at about -35 Celsius, wasn't my truck or my call that's why I did it, I backed away slowly and didn't return for about 20 minutes to idle it up... But it fired up LoL

Bullshit. There is oil left over in the head . The thing would have to sit for years for all that oil to drain into the Block. 2ed neutral is neutral with the clutch in out. There would be less strain on the engine with the transmission in neutral rather then a clutch application l.

@roccop86746 ай бұрын
You can hear how cold the air is, air so dense in the engine taking in air sounds like a hammer 😂
@dennismundt73782 жыл бұрын
You might invest in a "Webasto" parking heater that lets you set the time you want the cab and engine to be warm. They then climb into a preheated truck, where they can start the engine while it is still warm. This leads to less wear and also increases the service life of the engine.

Me and a buddy of mine built a fire under one once to get the oil to thin out. She fired right up
@manny917802 жыл бұрын
Always let that engine turn over in the cold to try to get as much oil to the top of that motor if you can and put the clutch in to relieve pressure so you're not spinning the main shaft in the transmission and hold the accelerator to the floor until it fires and stays running on its own power even electronic

I would have given that diesel engine some fairly hard throttle when it did start so the oil gets around the engine quicker & the battery(s) get a good charge from the alternator. I am surprised you didn't do this, would have helped & I don't think it will hurt the engine in the long run.

First off I love this cold start, it is my favorite on you tube. Second, I sense alot of sarcasm in this video, I also noticed something that gives the impression, that you do this to it at least once and a while, and knew exactly what to expect. I Bet she has some miles in her as well. Did you make this video to show a cat hater what's up lol? Is there even a place to plug it in there lol

Come to Wisconsin. I have cold started lots of these at -20°F and worse! Roll them over and give a shot of ether while it is turning. Do not spray a bunch of ether in and then turn it over. If it all collects in a pocket you can do some serious damage. It is awesome though to hear an old Cat crack off in freezing cold weather and blow clouds of white smoke everywhere for 10 minutes! But it is a horrible trucking practice! Plug them in boys and girls!

My 98 3406E does that too on cold starts. It'll start with a very low idle and loud ass knocking. Runs like that for 3 or 4 minutes then the idle levels out to its normal smooth self😁

A properly maintained truck will start down to like -5 then you really need the plug, yours is very obviously in great condition considering the fact it only took 5-6 tries. At work it usually takes me 9-10 for some shit trucks

What needs to be plugged in? Sorry, we dont have these in SA, and I dont drive a truck, but love them. Also, is it normal for it to knock like that?
@kyletrump80252 жыл бұрын
It's electric Hybrid. He didn't plug it in to charge it so he has the Deisel backup motor that runs to charge the electric batteries. The knocking is because of the extreme cold, once the metal all heats up it will decrease. We call them angry pixies.

Where are you supposed to plug the engine block heater in at? It appears to me that the truck is at a warehouse and I don't know of any warehouses that have outlets on their exterior walls for us to plug block heaters into. I don't know what year this was taken, but for the Last 5 years of September 22 when I leave this comment apus are generators are the way of the land for profitable trucking and to keep engines from cold starts. I never start my engine without a block heater when ambient temperatures less than 50°F.
@truckerkevthepaidtourist23 күн бұрын
A lot of times at warehouses you go to they have plugs and extension cords For example I deliver a lot to an Auto parts Warehouse and they have their trucks plugged in the basically right up where the dock doors are there are extension cords where they can plug them in

Hey be happy that's how your sounds for the age that it is check this one out it's basically a new truck and it stalls out 2018 Peterbilt 13 degrees Fahrenheit link please note that one you load the video the ECM is already on so we do not know how long it's been on also as soon as he lets the clutch out the thing just dies kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6vPqpimncagqJo Nothing compared to my Detroit 2019 dd15 literally all I do even when it's really cold turn the key on get the ECM gauges everything else all nice and happy make sure all the lights go out 15 to 30 seconds later crank it over I never had a glow plug light come on this truck I don't even know if it's equipped with one it is still kind of new to me only had it for 3 or 4 months now the only time it misfires is my finger slipped off the key while in the starting process of cranking the engine now I do have a DT 12 transmission I do not know if it pushes the clutch when I crank the engine I cannot tell you I am not sure and I don't think the manual tell me that
