I was shopping at Marshall’s yard earlier today, the shopping area built on the old site of the factory responsible for this amazing engine. The crane which would have moved some of the large parts is still on display when you drive in. Great to see one in such good repair,

Whenever I see steam engines in parades or at fairs, I always smile because they remind me of the amazing engineering that humanity was capable of in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Great restoration! I grew up with a Burrell showman's engine (Nero) and had a lot of duties for my uncle in terms of the cleaning, lubrication and polishing brass. The payoff was being steersman from the age of 12 and sometimes raising steam so she was ready for the road when he got back from work. We had loads of trouble with fitting rubber to the wheels. Good luck to Reliant Rubber, they seem to have done a great job.

Its a beautiful looking traction engine. I find it surprising how "cramped" the cockpit area is though compared to a similar sized US engine from Peerless or Cass. Here in the states the coal and water bunkers are kept off to each of their own areas on the sides with the immediate rear usually being left open as a platform to stand on. This provides lots of room for firing, and in general comfort. I have fond memories of attending many steam traction and antique farm equipment festivals while as a kid. Thanks for the video.

A lot of people still name their machines, but I know in my house it would just cause problems. Imagine me sayin' to the Mrs. "I'm goin' to spend the day with Uncle George". She would likely say "Oh sure, the day with Uncle George! Yeah, I bet! Better be, and not polishin' up to no hot steamer someplace out in the fields! Oh, and now you're invitin' me along! Just like ya, always sayin' "the more the merrier!" I'll be havin' nothin' to do with it, no thank ya! But the next time I see Uncle George, his and your stories better match up!" "Wait a minute, who is this Uncle George? You don't have an Uncle George, and I don't have an Uncle George... Ok, that does it! I am comin' along just to see what you're REALLY up to!"
