Cold starting a antique Holder A12 tractor with a two cycle Sachs diesel air cooled engine

It is a diesel 2 stroke just like a1-71 both the sach and 1-71 and all detroits burn off there oil.

the diesel DOES NOT lubricate the crankcase. there is a separate dry sump oil system and tank

Yes and the dry sump oil system looks like less mess and less work. My 8v92 can burn some oil.

I think the oil gets pumped to the journals and then it slings off the crank and then burns up.

Just don't forget to check the oil tank. These engines use total-loss lubrication; oil is injected into the crankcase and some is burned in the top of the cylinder as well as these engines are crankcase scavenged.

Diesel oil is a lubricant It's the same as home heating oil. So you don't INJECT additional oil into the cylinders. The lubrication is achieved by the injection of the fuel.

that is wrong ...... the fuel does not lubricate the engine , it has a separate oiling system for that
