I would love to see the Voyager XL with a lock like this. Anything to make it close with one hand would be great.

Great observation. The atlas lock is definitely stronger IMHO. It's kind of a beefed up version of the compression lock when you think about it. The lock bar is being compressed between the blade tang and the stop pin. In addition to that, just like on the shark lock, you have the lock bar pin (front) taking up the negative force as well. Also, you do not have to "lift" the lock bar to clear and disengage with the blade tang, like on the Demko one. The shark lock is however a lot more fidget friendly, as you have pointed out.

I'd have to say the shark lock still has the advantage. Not only does it have a similar "fork" butting up to the tang, but if u look at the bottom of locking mechanism; u have much more surface area coming in contact with the tang as well. Thanks for the look inside!! 👍

Great discussion. I absolutely luv both lock types on the Knives I own. But, I must say, I prefer the Shark-Lock over the Atlas-Lock. Why? Well, for something you didn't mention... :-) To disengage the Shark-Lock you must slightly pull up on the Shark Fin. Where as on the Atlas-Lock you just pull the Lock-Bar straight back. That can enable a fail if you hit the Butt of the Handle against a hard surface while the blade is deployed. The Andrew Demko Shark-Lock stops that failure by making a lock that has to be lifted up to disengage. To me, that makes the Shark-Lock superior to the Atlas-Lock. :-) But, I noticed on my Mayhem Atlas-Lock Folders, that you have to pull the Mayhem Atlas-Lock, Lock-Bar further than the Engage Model to disengage it. That's a way to make the Atlas-Lock safer. Both, are awesome locks, in my op8nion. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

I'm sure Cold Steel could locate the part where it locks and unlocks somewhere else. The patent issue here should not have been an issue, as Super Lock came before Shark Lock and it established the point of use for handling.

The Atlas is stronger. BOTH of those pins are supporting the blade tang through the wedge.

I can't find an ad 20 anywhere and I hate how small the 20.5 is. Where did you get yours?

Now, there are rumors that GSM is selling Cold Steel. More broken blades than ever, a lot of heat treatment problems, poor customer service, and they will do everything to keep them from replacing a knife. In short, if GSM is selling Cold Steel, I feel sorry for whoever buys Cold Steel. Anything that's been bashed that hard and bad-mouthed to hell and back. It's like that voice in your head. Wanting to date a woman with the most risqué past. Because you have a past, too. However, you don't want to commit to that, haha.

Yea I have to say I disagree and they are not the same. From a engineering standpoint they are not close, they just operate the same. Sharklock is superior in every way! I hear the cold steels slip and gets worse with time
