Our Bokken and our new Wakazashi Bokken are made of the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real Katana and Wakazashi in length, size, weight and feel. While theyre not quite as rigid as wood, they have the advantages of being virtually unbreakable and remarkably stiff and cut resistant.

Cold Steel you have just earned a life long customer. I recent bought 2 Bokkens and I have to say they are above and beyond what I expected. I will admit I am afraid to use them too hard from fear of them braking, but as I use them more my sword training is becoming better and the bokkens themselves are still in perfect condition.

These bokken are fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I've been collecting the lot (katana, wakizashi, longsword, bastard sword, and dagger) and so far the only weakness that I have found is that in storage the black elastics used to secure the removable crossguards dry out eventually and crack. The hold is still solid even without them, and a bit of good glue solves it permanently anyways. Only mod I had to do was rub the tips on some carpet to round them for sparring safety against thrusts.

Hmm, will you guys make polymer shinais? Just wondering if that is a good idea. Bamboo shinais create splinters when they start to break, but polymer won't have this problem. I guess the challenge will be creating the same weight and balance, since polymer has different density with bamboo. Another obvious challenge is, well, you won't be able to use a heavily modernized shinai in a tournament...

just bought one, from experience of using wood, there not as rigid, but the fact that they are so durable makes up for it. cold steel makes other sword types out of this material, sparring against the like materials evens out the field so that the rigidity issue fades away. Good stuff.

I've got one of these and I have to say its not bad. It's lasted, I donno exactly, about 4 years and isn't showing too much wear. I admit I've been fairly gentle to it, and I can confirm that HITTING A CINDER BLOCK WILL MESS UP THIS SWORD. I know this from experience. With my wooden ones I used to put on a demo where I break a bunch of tile, cinder blocks and boards. When I went to practice this with the Cold Steel one I took a big chunk of rubber off of the blade.

I will probably be getting one of these. Some people talk smack about Cold Steel. With but a few exceptions (like DSA and Zombie Toolz), none answer the gauntlet thrown down by these kinds of abusive and destructive testing videos - much less with every product they make! I love your guy's Safe Maker 2 push knives, I wear 2 on my EDC, and plan to review them, as well as the dozen or so things I've bought from y'all over the years. My best advice to you is to take more heed to the historical weapons and martial arts, to make them a bit less choppy or clunky or whatever people's most common criticism is. I went Glock and Kalashnikov (and never looked back), because of the ruggedness, reliability, and durability of the designs and products. I like Cold Steel because they attempt to do that. Nothing is perfect, and they don't always suceed, but there's a lot of gems from this company that I think some people gloss over or snob at Also, you do get what you pay for. It's not an Albion - get over it lolz. Although I would looove to see Albion do the kinds of tests that Cold Steel, DSA, and Zombie Tools do - on every product ;) It's one of the things that made Wilkinson great! antiqueswordsforsale.com/history-of-the-wilkinson-sword-company/

also I found these to be lighter then my wooden boken and they tend to get bent after a while and take some straightening. In summery, They last forever compared to wood, but don't provide the same ridged feeling as they tend to flex more. I prefer a good wooden boken, but if you want something for light/med contact that will last more or less forever, then this is a good buy. Especially now that they only cost like $30, mine was about $60 when it was new. Also they have a larger variety now.

I made a guava bokken (not perfect) and I feel like its 3/4 as strong as yours. It's not crack and rot resistant but man it's tough. My one down side I feel on mine is that it splinters when I hit something really rough (like cement, lava rock) I saw in the video how it broke a cinder block, but will it leave any dents on it?

@Zero9056, haha yeah I know right. The only thing that would mess it up if like you said, use anything sharp on it, but besides that, I have used it to break numerous items and it has not bent or done anything like that. Cold Steel wasn't lyinh when they said it was indestructible.

I've never spared with mine, but yes, it does have some flexibility in the 'blade'. Just like a real sword would. Its not sloppy though and it dosnt 'wobble' for me when i swing it or anything. I've put the tip into the floor, bent the blade at a near 45 degrees, and it just springs back perfectly straight though.

Hey guys I have a few questions. My buddy and I are looking for bokkens to train with. We are tired of our wooden swords breaking and we want a more permanent solution. We do fight each other with the weapons almost constantly. My first question is, how do these types of weapons hold up in a high-intensity fight? Especially against heavier blows. Also, are they suited for striking another person in a fight? We want to feel the pain but we don't want to actually hurt one another.

very easy to do, just have a proper handle added to give you weight and a better grip. take some leather or cotton and wrap it around it, add a small hole like one for a lanyard, and tie it off there. some rayskin strips before hand can also help. or just taking off some material with the blade. if you have a file, take some time to thin the blade a tad bit.

How heavy are your bokkens? Are they similar to white oak which seems to be the closest to the real weight of a sword, or are the more like red oak which is very light and seems to be better for practicing katas (or for beginners?) and do you have any advice for someone who is trying to learn from instructional videos with a partner? (my dad is ex-special forces and a master of hand-to-hand and kali knife fighting, so am I, so we aren't inexperienced in combative training)

Liking the Shinkendo Kata and Kiai. Not such a great fan of the polypropylene bokken for tachiuchi though.
