Cold Steel - Chinese War Sword

The Chinese war sword I think is one of my all time favorite weapons. Its blade is not made for surgical cutting, but it is sturdy and solid, more like a machete, great for going against armor and other swords. In fact, their purpose was to give a hard time to the Japanese katanas, damaging their blades if not even breaking them.

I have a number of cold steel swords and knives, and I can tell you, they are some of the finest blades around.

The Chinese used this at the battle of Great Wall in 1930s against Japan. The sword was good and soldiers who had them fought well. The Japanese won however, their guns and mortars and other equipment far outweigh China's rather weak army at the time. Its interesting for those interested in modern warfare uses of swords, check out the history.

It was very effective in melee combat and ambush. Chinese soldiers were trained by martial artists hired by the Kuomintang government and developed simple steps allowing only several weeks of constant training to make them proficient. In the Chinese army, both soldiers and their officers were often armed with their swords during combat. In contrast only Japanese officers carried swords as they were the badges of rank. Common soldiers would have to do with bayonets. The effects of Chinese war sword better known as dadao was so great that it create fear in the hearts and minds of Japanese soldiers. The Japanese army even developed an iron neck collar to be issued to frontline soldiers to prevent decapitation. It hardly provide any protection at all as the heavier blade was still able to decapitate Japanese soldiers with their iron collars. Although unable to change the outcome of the war, It became a symbol of resistance for the Chinese people.

it's for war battles and it's maintainable and reusable unlike katana which can be used a few times and has to be replaced, katana is like chinese miaodao, is only good for personal defence but unsuitable for war battles. if zoombie apocalypse strikes I'd choose war sword over other swords

Such stopping power. Cuts like the messer they do or the two handed great sword or the nodachi... Before I questioned its reach but now I'm looking for a short sword that would be well suited to an indoor type situation, or a situation where you are getting rushed by multiple attackers, reach isn't always desirable or the be all and end all. It depends what situation your in. I'm tempted to buy this thing. I'm going to research its history and how effective it was in combat. Any knowledge anyone can give me would be appreciated.

The Dadao was used by certain Chinese regiments during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War. It was so effective that, for a while, Japanese soldiers were issued with iron collars to try to protect themselves from getting decapitated. It became a symbol of the Chinese's determination to defend their homeland, and a patriotic song was written about it, called 大刀进行曲 ("The Sword March").

Its short for a number of reasons, one which you mentioned, close quarters. it was also designed to be used in formation at some point in its life, so a long sword wasn't conducive for formation attacks. Finally it was designed to be easier to handle and durable because much of China's conscripted populace weren't exactly swordsmen, so they didn't need to know how to maintain the blade or handle a weapon of a length they were used to. Plus it was designed to snap katanas and spears in two, which as the video shows it does very very well. One could easily say it is a very practical blade.

im totally not big boss in hiding This is a common misunderstanding, most of the fighting wasn't done by peasants or conscripts. In medieval europe nobles, men at arms, and mercanaries were the ones who fought. Occasionally militias would fight to defend their homes, but other than that the ones fighting were professionals. As far back as 200 B.C. Rome and China had professional armies. Conscripts were only used briefly.
