Great review Nutnfancy I have to say Im never without mine Ive carried a khukri knife with me ever since I was deployed in somalia in 92/93 with the Canadian Airborne Regiment (C.A.R) during operation deliverance and Ive never been without one since I carry the Sk5 these days and the only time I dont have that knife nearby is when im in the shower lol cheers!

I just wanted to say I just got this knife. It's big.. It's thick.. But it is FREAKY how light this blade is..

I'm very fond of the Kukri as it was one of the weapons that I studied in the martial arts.when used properly, it has the same cutting power as much longer blades, and as the Gurkha have proven they can be an all purpose blade. I have a Kukri House Kukri (I agree with you on the sheaths of the traditional knives, I made a Kydex sheath for mine) that is part of my G.O.O.D. or B.O.B if you prefer as a complimentary part of my blades, I also carry an old school 1986 Ontario USAF Pilot survival knife along with a couple folders. The kukri can literally cut a man in half with the right strike, and makes short work of firewood. Love this blade for when a small blade just won't do the trick.

I would have never given a knife like this a second look, but the great thing about reviews like yours is they allow me to be more open minded. The proof is in the pudding. Thanks again for getting out there doing the leg work & as always great to hear your thoughts on this awesome blade!

For real. If I was forced to choose one knife I could take with me in an extreme survival situation, it would be this one. An excellent blade that can do just about everything you'd want out of a knife (or a hatchet for that matter).

I had a kukri gifted to me by my Dad that he brought back from one of his business trips abroad when I was kid. Although the steel was not as good as the steel used these days the shape and weight and function was so different than the other knifes I had it always impressed me. I've been carrying and collecting knives since I was a little kid. (I'm 50 now).Right now my all around favorite knife for "expeditions" is a Bear Damascus Bowie. But the kukri in this review has caught my fancy. Thanks.

I have to say, I purchased the 15" Victor Kukri from the Khukhri House, official supplier of the nepalese army. It is AMAZINGLY high quality. However, I have no experience with this blade. It looks exceptionally well done. Thank you for the review, nutnfancy. Very much.

My cat totally loved that Gurkha Khukri. Watched the video from my lap for about five minutes and then went to the monitor for a close up. I would have made a video response of her watching the video, but she's shy and took off once I got out the camera.

Love the Cold Steel product line, and really appreciate your support of their many fine knives. As someone who has swung a machete for over 30 years on a daily basis they rank right up there with Collins and Ontario. Their Kukri machete is essentially the same design as the one you reviewed at a fraction of the price.

I have the junglas for over a month now and it is an awesome blade, comes with an amazing sheath. I cannot have asked for a better blade. It is balanced right at the point where the blade meets the handle, amazing micarta canvas handle with a double point hand guard, 1095 steel, textured powdered black coating, 1/4 in app thick stock and 10 inch blade, 10.5 including the non cutting edge. It is really amazing.

BTW - I'm one of those who have purchased the Recon Scout and the Rtak ll...the modification that I came up for the Rtak ll handle was a neoprene motorcycle handle cover that I had laying around and slipped it over the handle. I works great and take the bite/sting when you're chopping.. I also use a heat gun on the plastic insert sheath to make it tighter (just take the insert out of the sheath place the knife in it, heat the plastic and press down with a towel ..cause it's hot!) it works

I've had one for a few years now and I just love it! Mine is coated but otherwise identical to the one you just reviewed. The coating makes a huge difference. FYI, it does split well as well as baton well. A couple years ago in extreme upstate NY we were heating with wood, seasoned hard wood, and or hatchet broke. For several days this knife, sometimes aided by another log whacking the spine was our hatchet with no complaints and little wear on the egde.

I can here you now. “I’m not the end all expert on sewing, but this 2” large hole variety from Singer absolutely rocks for my money and purposes... your mileage may vary.” Then, you’d show us a aftermarket Hoag grip or some skateboard tape mod to give it that tactical feel, lol. Keep pumping out the videos my friend. We’re all the wiser for them.

I love my Kukri, I've had mine for about 20 or more years and it is my primary work horse. The Kukri baton's as good as any other knife. For detail work the last inch or 2 from the handle can be used, although I would rather use a smaller blade. The Kukri can also be used as a machete, long enough cutting edge. Put a vinegar patina on the blade to stop rust, it's a cheap'n'easy fix. Hope I answered all questions, running out of characters.

This is one of my favorite reviews, because you've done it on something I was afraid to buy for a very long time. I have the kukri machete--which is very wonderful after you manage to get it sharpened, but this is a whole new league. I may have to get this now. Thank you Nutnfancy. The horror stories about overnight rust over 90% of the blade really scared me away from it. I read way too many reviews, I just wanna know which are legit, and which are sabotage (or based on lemons).

I have a Nepalese Khukuri. I can agree with you that an updated grip sounds nice. Mine has the buffalo-horn handle, which is large and fits the hand well. However, the smaller fingers experience a mild sting, just like the resonance that annoys batters. On another note, I've done some batoning with mine, and it's fantastic. The blade thickness helps keep things from locking up.

I own 5 kukris, 2 by cold steel (carbon V - camillus' modified 1095), the old LTC and the Gurkha, 3 indigenous ( 1 Nepalese ww2 era), none have ever failed. I have baton split a 6" diameter log with the cheap india made one with no damage to the knife. I've retired the hatchet, the hawk and several large knives in favor of the kukris. I recommend using a diamond file to sharpen them. Nepalese made kukris (khukuris) are differentially hardened and a regular file will just skit right across the edge.

Do you have any 1st hand information on "the khukri house" models of kuris? I heard they are the guys that the actual British Gurkha carry so I am only guessing its made from quality steel? At $85 (not including the $30 shipping) it seems like a good choice?

Mouse hide.... good one. I love the Kukri design. In Latin America we're partial to large blades. A machetes a must. Granted in the Northern forest a machete is often out of place. But a Kukri is like a long axe. But, the price is a little much.

I have one of these, an older style from years ago. It is powder coated. I've used it for clearing brush. It got a tiny notch on it where I struck a pipe I didn't know was sticking out of the ground in some brush (it made a pretty good cut right into the iron pipe!). It easily slices through saplings and such. The handle is grip is so knobby though you need gloves with it because it is hard on bare skin.

For those concerned with rust issues, apply Sentry Solutions tuff cloth or their marien tuff cloth. I used it on my M16 while on float in SE Asia as well as while in Haiti. Its a great metal coating and great dry type lubricant for bolt operation.

I got my khukuri for cheap at a local gun show, only $35. The metal on the blade is very soft, so it loses its edge quickly. It is still a decent chopper, though probably not as good as your CS knife. A lot of the appeal is 2nd type of cool, but quality-wise, I would still say I got a bargain on my knife. Way to go on the review; I've been waiting for this a LONG time.

@dasmonkeyman The axe question has been answered in TNP many times and my stance is consistent. The DishD and ojii11 are exactly right: I've never seen a dayhiker carrying an axe, ever. Of course this knife approaches the weight of a small axe. However at this point I have lots of experience with hand axes & this Kukri chops as good/better as any of them. Now if you upgrade to a full size 5 lb or so axe, then that's different. But this Kukri is more versatile than an axe and carries better.
@KagarBeardtooth14 жыл бұрын
@adaman04 My point is, the Condor is basically a machete. The knife in THIS video is more like an Axe. There's no point comparing the two. The Condor may be a great alternative to the CS Kukri Machete, but if you're looking for an alternative to the CS Gurkha Kukri, the Condor would be an abysmal choice as the two are designed for totally different work. As he explains in the video, the machete is for brush clearing; the Kukri is for felling hardwood trees.

Great vid, kickin' it old school! Thanks Nutn! Thoroughly enjoyable. As much as I would also like to see the Kuhkri made in the US, the fact of the matter is that the blades coming out of Taiwan are unbelievably good. I do't know what it is about the shape that gives it so much power, but it is undeniable. I own a Marine issued Ka-Bar, a genuine Fairbairn-Sykes British Commando knife, a Gerber machete, and he list keeps going. None of them can do what this fucking thing can. 2" wet saplings? One powerful swing and the damn thing is in two halves, with a cut so clean you would think a stray laser beam went through it. Just like you see here. A very powerful weapon/tool/back-scratcher.
