0:25 that's a triple tatami? I only ever attempted cutting a Double roll, and this went right through, with very little resistance. Obviously a good cutter, it's a Machete, that's what they do, but the arm shows remarkable skill in that demonstration. Those things are tougher than they look!
@Divine_Serpent_Geh5 жыл бұрын
Psiberzerker Yup, I was also surprised since usually for a target that big, you need a long blade to generate the momentum and slicing motion. I mean like, if you’re gonna be trying a triple with a machete, it’s gotta be a 24” blade. But it looks like that was the 18” or 21” version.

Impressive, I don't actually own a machete. I just wish that you provided them with a good edge out of the box. Like you do with your knives.

@Cold Steel Is latin machete good for thrusting along with slashing?
@Divine_Serpent_Geh6 жыл бұрын
The Name Unless the tip is modified, meaning sharpened on purpose. It theoretically COULD be used to thrust. But fundamentally, no. The Latin Machete is meant for chopping or slicing (if it’s sharp enough). Machetes in general are not meant for thrusting, since they are tools, not swords.

excellent demo, Mr.Thomson you love blades and it shows!!! i never thought much about machetes, due to their thin spine....but your video is an eye opener. Please do a video regarding the 1849 Rifleman's knife....give us the historical background, your opinion regarding the effectiveness of this blade and please show us just what i can do....or can't...!!!!!

Cult Of Malgus Yes, his strike was not well delivered. Play it at 0.25x speed and you’ll see how the machete strikes the target. Lynn himself has said it before, sometimes he messes up because he substitutes too much power for technique. But, what the hell. Their machetes are 1055 spring steel, so just bend that sucker back to the original alignment.
@cultofmalgus13105 жыл бұрын
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh they need to make a mid-tier 1075 model. Something in the $50-$60 range that can compete with Condor without being quite as expensive.
@Divine_Serpent_Geh5 жыл бұрын
Cult Of Malgus in my opinion a machete doesn’t have to be expensive to be good. It’s a sharp piece of properly treated carbon steel with a basic handle.
@cultofmalgus13105 жыл бұрын
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh depends on your application, what you want out of it, what you expect out of it. For a regular garden, backyard, trail chopper, sure I agree. But in a survival scenario off the grid? I want a machete that can cover a wider variety of tasks including combat scenarios and extreme wilderness survival. For that I really want a slightly thicker 1075 blade over these thinner 1055's. That said I buy these cheaper CS machetes for training purposes mostly and simple back yard tasks. For cheap blade with more applications cold steel's GI Tanto is a great choice. I keep that and my Finn Bear in a Survival pack with medical supplies, fire starter, MRE snacks, water filter, etc.
@Divine_Serpent_Geh5 жыл бұрын
Cult Of Malgus How thick do you mean? In my opinion, a machete shouldn’t exceed 3mm spine thickness (1/8”). I know these cold steel machetes are 2mm thick, if the blade is 24 inches long, that can feel floppy. Personally I have a custom made machete that had a 22.75” blade and is 3/32” (~2.5mm) thick at the spine. For the length it’s just about right, not too floppy that it twists and turns in powerful cuts and chops, and not to stiff that it has no flex or feels overly heavy.

@Divine_Serpent_Geh4 жыл бұрын
LFPS0311 Yeah, that’s pretty much true. I like Cold Steel and I like Thompson. But good lord, that strike on the ballistic leg was awful. Way too much unnecessary power and horrible edge alignment. Shows how important technique is. If you slow it way down, you can see how the machete hit and literally twisted. Hell, I could’ve probably made it all the way through that thing in one swing.

Marian Iurea Not necessarily. His strike and edge alignment was horrible. Slow it down to 0.25x and you will see how twisted the cut was. Another thing, a spring tempered blade CAN take a set. even though it is spring tempered, it is only 2mm thick. It’s easy to see why it bent.
