I've never been able to do a full split but I consider myself very flexible. I do martial arts 4-5 times a week. That's were my big knife love comes from kali. Coldsteel is one of my favorites in machetes because of designs and 1055 is tough. I also like marbles cutless machete it's $20 in us. Probably crazy price in your neck of the world. As I suspected, Amazon cancelled my order for this machete. It was on hold. They said it would arrive tomorrow. I was pretty sure it would get cancelled. Luckily I was able to get a Cold Steel Royal Kukri Machete for a decent price. It doesn't look like GSM Outdoors plans to continue Cold Steel's South African machete line.
@joex
@joex Жыл бұрын
i think so too, u should ge the Jungle !!!!!
@DDDYLN
@DDDYLN Жыл бұрын
@@joex I really wanted it. It's unclear if GSM Outdoors is discontinuing Cold Steel South African machetes, or they're just having production issues while restructuring. Those South African machetes make a lot of profit. It doesn't make sense to discontinue them, but large companies don't always do the logical thing. I'm just glad I was able to buy 3 over the past few years. The Ontario 18" machete is good, but the grip isn't very ergonomic, and it's quite heavy. I would have preferred the CS Jungle Machete, but at least I have the Royal Kukri, the Katana, and the old Black Bear Bowie Machete (they discontinued it a few years ago). The Royal Kukri is pretty nice, as long as you're careful not to accidentally cut your other arm off (because of the way the blade hooks)! The Royal Kukri also has an excellent grip. People are now asking $55+ for the Jungle Machete. That happens every time a blade gets discontinued. I'm not paying that.

factory edge, usually brand new knives!!
@DDDYLN
@DDDYLN Жыл бұрын
@@joex I have several. It's been mixed with factory edges. They're usually good enough for machete work. If I contrast that to Ontario, their machetes and Spec Plus knives come dull as butter knives. That said, I love the OKC Spec Plus knives. I may have to sharpen them myself, but they're practically indestructible. I wish they'd put a real hand guard on the SP6 Fighting Knife, but it's still good for the money. The SP10 is a steal for the money.

yeah, i love those Cold Steel, cheap machetes!!
@GuyInAHotdogSuit69
@GuyInAHotdogSuit69 2 жыл бұрын
The reason it's so tough i because the blade material is very soft and flexible. Not because they're hard, that would make them more brittle and difficult to sharpen. I own several of these machetes and they're incredibly easy to sharpen, Hell, even the hardest high-carbide tool steel in the world wouldn't take anywhere near 8 hours to sharpen. If it takes you more than 30 minutes to sharpen anything, especially a soft spring steel machete like this then you're doing something very wrong.

I'm returning my Ontario 18" machete, and getting this machete. I know Ontario has a better warranty, but this machete seems more effective. I usually shrink wrap the polypropylene grips with this grippy shrink wrap I found. Hopefully that should help cut down on handle cracking. The Ontario machete is decent, but it doesn't seem as effective, and nobody makes a decent sheath for it. Those Rothco sheaths are awful.
@joex
@joex Жыл бұрын
cool, this CS JUNGLE is the best for me, Ontario 18 did good as well but nothing compared to this one!
@DDDYLN
@DDDYLN Жыл бұрын
@@joex I very much appreciate the feedback. I've had one on order for awhile. Amazon delayed my order at first, but then moved it up to Nov. 2. We'll see. I know it's around the same weight as the Ontario 18", but the Ontario just didn't feel good in the hand. The lack of curvature also makes me think it will be harder to cut through things as quickly, especially small stuff.
@joex
@joex Жыл бұрын
@@DDDYLN the handle of the Ontario is not good, Jungle has the a different handle than the other CS machetes! thats why i like it!
@DDDYLN
@DDDYLN Жыл бұрын
@@joex that's my primary reason for not liking the Ontario. I know you broke the CS Jungle Machete handle in your video. However, it looked very cold outside for plastic, and you were doing something to it that I wouldn't do unless it was an accident. Besides the slipperiness, I've had good luck with CS polypropylene handles. Some of them, like my Black Bear Bowie Machete, just need some shrink grip or tennis racket tape.
@DDDYLN
@DDDYLN Жыл бұрын
@@joex interestingly, CS must have got some feedback, because they dimpled the handle on my Royal Kukri Machete. The polypropylene actually has good grip in dry conditions. I'm still going to have to modify it though, as it's too small for my hands. I have very large hands. It will be fine for average hands.

Yes, I knew that the 1055 can handle WAY more abuse than 1095 steel. But this video shows it even more so. Good that you had the gasmask on, the blade tip nearly hit your eye hen bouncing back. On the shock. I noticed this too when chopping some dry pinewood. Lots of shock. Which is not good. Dave Pearson who had the KZbin channel called 'reallybigmonkey1' called it the machete that gave the most vibrations of all the machete's he tested. The CS kukri machete is a much better choice in that regard. The PVC handle does keep the vibrations down really better . I'm curious on a same test with that one as you did with the CS Jungle machete. The CS kukri plus machete and the CS Royal kukri machete have that exact same handle/material. It would also be interesting to see how the kukri machete's PVC handle holds up when doing that hard chopping test.. Will it split also..

Not as hard as you do ofcourse. But these Tramontina's are low priced, 1070 steel . Good temper.
