Thanks Wooly for the shoutout! I still lean towards the Cold Steel mostly due to its sharpness out of the box and I have not had too touch it up yet! Great Video and Great Title. Good stuff as usual by the Wooly Man!

This seems very similar to the Cold Steel version. The only thing I would say would be to spend the time beforehand to put a good sharp edge onto all of the cutting sides of the Fuchs one (the Cold Steel one was very nicely sharpened straight out of the box and was relatively easy to resharpen once it had started to lose its edge)

Ok, lets see what it does, digs, chops, it is a striker, play toy for Bruno… but can you process a deer or a squirrel with it? The more a tool is supposed to do, the less it preforms in each task well, is what I have generally found, but then that is the compromise of having less weight vs proper gear! So if I bought that, it would be just a small shovel, in which it was designed for, light rooting and digging, a small hatchet for fire wood production and of course a few knives, for general purpose use and food processing, and a bow saw blade, some cordage! Probably weigh in at about an additional 20 lbs. with this setup, I could build a shelter, provide a means of heating/ cooking, source water, and even provide food for myself! So now i have a challenge for you! A just you, and a few select tools, plus your canteen cup and a clear plastic sheet, create a camp from scratch, shelter, heat, and distill water from the earth, forage for edibles, the only other thing you can bring is meat products ( because I don’t know the laws of hunting and trapping in Ireland! All of this in 4 consecutive days! Have fun! By the way, you have either to pack it all in on foot or bicycle, no truck allowed! You can use “Red Branch”, but all shelters that pre-exist are not allowed, any fire wood must be harvested and processed on an as needed basis, and water production needs to be on going during the video, not using the stream near by! Have fun! You can build a trap or 2 if you like!

It's amazing what can be achieved with the simple shovel. How do you confuse an Irishman? Put two shovels against the wall and tell him to take his pick. I'll see myself out.
