You gotta be a fool not to like this knife and the steel is really the best for the buck some folks just need to complain about something and if it was not the handle material it would be the guard shape or blade lenth. The Cold Steel Trailmaster is a legendary knife for a reason and best seller as well with the Recon Scout knife.

Just pulled the trigger and bought one after almost 4 years of reflection. Man can't wait to get it. I think this is one of the most beautiful knife design ever made with the SRK I just love the utilitarian look of them.... I guess this is why I find a glock a beautiful firearms.

+inquisitor Though I can't argue with the benefits of a smaller blade there's no doubt that the TM is a fighter. Cold Steel's Laredo and Natchez are pure fighting knives by design and they are heavier and larger than the TM. I'm not talking self defense where concealability factors like size and weight come into play but just a pure fighting blade.

The only downside I ever noticed with the CS Trailmaster is the handle as tyou pointed out Tac. The worst part is the Kraton deteriorates over time and will begin to get really gummy and pull away from the handle. That takes years but will eventually require a re-handle. MAYBE you could just do a re-handle now and get some contoured micarta on it?? I am not sure if you can do it yourself or know someone, but that is what I am facing with a couple of mine right now.

if your open to constructive criticism, I notice on your ten chop tests the chips you initially chop at the first 2-3 swing seem to stop the blades from biting into the unchopped wood. that might be the cause of not being able to bite in the later swings. just something I noticed

Comments off for the tops Armageddon video, but I just wanted to say I love your vids, freakin hilarious, glad you still tip tested the tops, but I wouldnt have held it against you if you hadnt. The design is amazing but I think you have to keep expectations for individual steels, 1095 is soft already and im sure they tempered way back for machete use, it didnt hardly bend though either so your still good with it, smack it back, lol. Thats why I am making d2 and v4x etc for knives because a bent or snapped tip is the MOST annoying thing. People will call d2 brittle, yeah, thats the heat treats decision, lower temp treat and it is anything but brittle, that's a rumor from people testing factory treated knives that are way harder then necessary. Keep up the awesome shit Tac!

I think the vibration in the handle is cause by the squareness of the tang and handle I would like to see a more fitted grip handle on that monster of a knife kindda think of the crkt chanceinhell handle or the crkt fe9 with cold steel's kraton rubber like grip over those types of shape of a handle and it would be an ultimate heavy duty bowie knife and would be great if they kept it at it's normal price tag

ha ha ha!! love your videos. So much fun and realistic tests. Years fallowing your channel and always the same cool videos. I have a question Tac... I´m looking for s real TANK!! I mean, real heavy dutty knife, but long blade one. ¿Why? well... I train gladius style fencing, and you know, it´s a very chopping style fencing. So... I need a survival knife with this GREAT chopping resistence. I mean, I have BK-9, but... I don´t trust really in it. Have seen a couple test with BK-9 broken. It´s a great tool, but in a combat situation, when blade can hit metal or walls, I don´t trust in it. Survive Knives GSO 10! ooohhh yeaahh (like you say), but can´t found it! no one store have it. I think Trail Master can be a great option, but, I don´t know.... I have seen a couple broken to (in SK-5). Your opinion is really important, so.... Thanks for sharing!

Tac you should make a redo of the mt-151 from mtech but put your edge in it, you'll be surprised how comparable to the trailmaster is
@escariotnah4872
@escariotnah4872 8 жыл бұрын
It would be interesting to compare this to a resharpened Mtech 151. The Mtech is a clone of the older model Trailmasters, which had a thinner spine, lighter weight, and were slimmer a few millimeters behind the edge. Cold Steel seemed to have responded to the BK-9 by beefing up the knife, which might actually hurt the performance for most uses.
@stalememe6407
@stalememe6407 7 жыл бұрын
Escariot Nah how the hell did it hurt it's performance IMO it's leaps and bounds better than the bk9
@escariotnah4872
@escariotnah4872 7 жыл бұрын
Really, that's odd. The two knives are similar enough that there shouldn't be gigantic differences beyond personal taste and differing environments. I prefer the BK-9 because the leaner grind allows deeper cuts for the same force, as well as better performance in food processing. Neither tool is great for butchering, but the Trailmaster was extremely clumsy for processing game, whereas the BK-9 carved nicely, but was just longer than ideal. Also, the lack of a guard allows for more holds.
@stalememe6407
@stalememe6407 7 жыл бұрын
Escariot Nah no the mtech is really thin I mean have you checked the chop off of? the mtech got beaten by a DAGGER plus the trailmaster has a flat grind so it has the keener edge and how is it clumsy? it's one of the best balanced knife I know
@escariotnah4872
@escariotnah4872 7 жыл бұрын
jordan nazif I don't think that thinness was the problem. Mtech's quality control is way below Cold Steel and Becker qc, so the demonstration probably reflects a too thick grind. The Mtech is also a flat grind. I have the Mtech and the older model Trailmaster, both of which have the same balance points. The major differences were the Trailmaster's superior handle epoxy, and the edge sharpness upon arrival. I ended up reprofiling both to improve chopping performance, and they perform very similarly, although the Mtech needs to be resharpened three to four times for every Trailmaster sharpening. I recommend that you buy and compare the Mtech to your Trailmaster. It's inexpensive, and a fun way to experiment with different grinds without ruining an expensive knife.
@stalememe6407
