Alaska's rivers begin the yearly process of freezing and we head to the river to catch this remarkable event.
The brisk weather is a sure sign winter is here to stay. We work through snowfall to cut and split wood to ensure the wood shed is topped off and although cold and snowy, life at the cabin is good.

Snow never ceases to amaze me, here in Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa. The closest I have ever seen snow in my 50 years, is in a freezer before it turns to ice! It never snows here. Sun going as high as the tree line, running along the treetops, then it sinks down! Wow! Wonders of God and nature.

Kenya is over 3 000 kilometers away from Zimbabwe. Furthermore, in between there is Zambia, which is 200% bigger than Britain. After Zambia, you get into Tanzania, which is also a big country. The curvature of the earth allows us to see limited distance no matter from what height. Also shimmering haze, and the African heat can block views. There is no way one can see Mt. Kilimanjaro standing in Zimbabwe, no matter what height. @@pinschrunner

Wow! I don't think I have ever seen such beautiful snow! What great drone shots! The trees are spectacular loaded with snow like that. Down here in OK, the snow is usually wind driven and with so many open fields, roads get blocked pretty fast. But luckily, that doesn't happen much. I used to watch 'Life Below Zero' a couple of years ago just trying to understand how folk survive the Alaskan winters. This channel is so much better!! and well filmed. As a Scot now living in OZ because the UK winters were too cold for me I have total respect for these two showing how things are done. Love the Doggos as adventure buddies

The last video of yours that I watched was February, 2021, then this November, 2021 came up so I watched it next. Wow, the amount of work you guys got done from February to November! You were just cleaning out the cabin in the February video, and now you've got solar, chickens, freezer, wood shed, snow equipment, the outside of the cabin looks different. I see in a comment below that you have bee hives? And I see a different dog. Did the elder pooch die? If so, I'm so sorry. I'll have to catch up on the videos I missed. Merry Christmas & best wishes for the New Year.

Starting at 17:23 up to 17:31, I don't care who you are that is probably the best shot I've seen all year! I'm relieved to see y'all set for the winter when it comes to wood and food. The only other thing I feel the need to say is to have a guide line tied from the house to the main structures you must reach. I feel like this winter might be a pretty tough one and if so, you'll need to be able to maneuver around without getting lost in a white out.

Oh wow Ariel @1:06 That Is Truly Beautiful seeing the River freeze.. what you both as a young couple have achieved in 4 years is beyond belief.. So Proud of you both. You are so very lucky to be there in beautiful Alaska. @6:35 That wood splitting thingy is Amazing.. Hug's Ariel and Eric, "bo", "bandit", "pepper", "hunter in the arm's of the Angel's" from Australia.. Thank you for letting us walk a day in your shoes, and taking us on this journey with you both. 😍Boy do I remember stacking wood in the wood shelter! From there to the covered front deck & then to floor to ceiling area inside the house. Splinters & spiders but theres nothing like the fire of a wood burning stove for ambience, heat & cooking when the power went out. Miss all that. ❤️ your Vids so much, congrats on 500k!

That powdery snow is so beautiful! Like I always say, your videos make me so happy😊 In this video I heard Arielle say that carbs seem to give her brain fog. As a person with gluten issues, I recognized this right away. It may or may not apply to Arielle ( I am not a doctor) but I included a statement below, from a reputable source, that might interest you. "Brain-fog" is a common sign of celiac, an auto-immune reaction, and of other kinds of sensitivity to gluten, a protein in wheat and rye. (Maybe you will find this helpful.) 💌 --Jessica from Florida 🌞

I would suggest leaving the snow on top of the hives, it will help insulate them relative to the air. It's also less disturbance to the hive noise and vibration wise. I loved the guitar and piano music and aerial views!

I've watched your channel for a couple of years now, but lately I've been coming by for little pick me ups here and there when I feel overwhelmed, or when I catch myself missing the conveniences my husband and I left behind when we sold our Sonoma County house and moved to bare land in far north Idaho. I loved your recent shower build video! Tonight I started watching your videos again from when you first moved to Alaska, reminding me that progress comes in steps and from experience. Thanks for the inspiration! p.s. love seeing the Clover and SRJC attire

Is there not any problem with predators and chickens? Weasels, fix, wolves, Hawks? Beehives! You guys have it all. Dairy goats???? I can only guess you guys hunt. 12 gauge for duck and deer, .45-70 for elk,?????? By any chance, does fresh salmon there have a different better taste than in the lower states? I tried salmon where I was not impressed anytime. But, I do know water as well as locality can affect something's tastes, so I ask.

The aerial footage is incredible. I wish we had real winters here in northern France instead of rain, humidity and slush whenever it "snows". I am watching as I take my second (apparently torture once wasnt enough) pregnancy diabetes test, and even with the nausea caused by the test, your food made me wanna have a nice big sandwich as soon as I walk out (9am here...). I swear you guys have saved my will to eat (and live!) throughout this pregnancy with you delicious looking recipes.

You both work so hard to be self sufficient. It is such a joy to witness your teamwork. Thank you for sharing your life on KZbin! Having spent time living off grid, I understand the effort. I also miss the freedom of it. My Mom needed me, so I am back in a city, attached to the grid... I saw many people fail because they did not work well together. I saw people who could not make it because they lacked the work ethic to needed to survive off the grid. So much respect for both of you!

Snow machine on a river? No! It has to be still flowing underneath. Hit one weak spot you and snowmobile is gone. But, equip am with sponsors, winch and sharpened 3 way hook maybe. You guys are living the life! Looks real good. Ever hear Sasquatch scream😂? It takes all that wood for winter and cooking?

Love the coats that you have for your dogs. They need fur lined boots to keep their toes warm too. Regarding the slab wood, I stockpiled slab lumber for our Y2K preparations. 21 years later I still have 1/2 cord leftover. Thankfully we didn’t need it for its planned use. We have enjoyed decades of Sunday afternoon fires. Wishing you and your family a blessed thanksgiving holiday. Thanks for sharing this insightful video series. Greetings from NE Ohio. Peace

Don't tell my wife, but I'm ready for winter and its only mid-May. No garden to tend, no grass to cut. Winter in the north is quiet and beautiful. After many years of living in the far north, I couldn't wait for winter to end, now I'm content with it.

You know this summer when I was mowing our yard for like the 100th time, I thought gee Eric and Arielle are so lucky they never have to mow! THEN it hit me. They plow snow all the time and we don't here. The weather is a little warmer when mowing too. But I sure love your winters your Drone footage looks like something out of a movie. Beautiful scenery!
