Sheets: www.musicnotes.com/l/M6t8m I’m going back to the start…14 years ago, I tried to learn Coldplay’s The Scientist on piano. It was the first song I tried learning by ear. This song holds an even deeper meaning to me now, as I’ve since become a scientist myself - I’m a chemist. The Scientist was also the first piano cover I ever uploaded on my KZbin channel. It has since been put on private, but I think this is a nice time to take a clip of it out of the vault and compare how differently I play this song 14 years later. Hope you all enjoy this special video :)

Fun fact about this song is that the original recording is not in standard 440hz but 446hz. This is why if you listen to the original and this version at the same time it sounds kinda weird. On some keyboards and stage pianos you can change the master tune to match the original recording.
@KatherineCordova4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is! Was challenging for me to learn this by ear on an out of tune piano. Their live recordings are in standard format, and this cover is based on their live performances (but a lot of you guys probably know that 🤓)

The part "I had to find you, tell you I need you", you played GAGCA GAGCA, I think it's little bit different from the original song. The first 'you'(find you) is higher than the second 'you(need you). The first one is maybe code B instead of A. I think. 1:36

Your old mechanical piano, is it tuned to a temperament, differing from what we are used to (adapted to) hear today? The electronic piano is like my keyboard though 🙂 Have you notice that the recording is likely sped up in post prod., leaving the A4 at 448Hz. So I tune my keyboard to 448Hz if I play along with the recorded version (2002 record). Your arr. Is great and close as possible to the way Coldplay perform it themselves, due to you have taken your time to analyze what the bass player plays, and incorporated it into your arr. Very nice! I love it. Your fast “picking-up” of the deep bass notes is very impressive work, and adds dimension to your arr. Making it stand out from the rest of us 🙂 Coldplay has stated themselves that the lyrics are about overthinking. I.e., making things more complicated it has to be.
