Loved the reaction as always. An interesting fact about the lights. Coldplay was the first band to utilize those wristband lights in the crowd. They started using them back in 2012. Back then it was a wristband given out to all the fans. Each wristband had a light diode and radio frequency receiver. They could be controlled to all turn on at once in different colors and either steady or blinking. They have obviously evolved over the last 10 years to what is seen now at big events like the Super Bowl and such where each individual band can be controlled by software programs to do all kinds of things like producing pictures or words in the stands. The guy who invented the first design got the idea at a Coldplay concert listening to Fix You so that is why he approached them to be first to utilize them on a large scale.

Coldplay are not depressing. In fact most of the songs ppl say are depressing end with a really inspiring positive tone, or make you think about your life and who you are . They are brilliant .

You're right!! The lyrics seem to assume a direction while the melody goes to another way. It would be a contradiction, but it's not. The percussion shows that the music it's going up and up and up: so the clímax: Cris Martin with his arms open lifting all the audience. This song is beautiful!! Viva la Vida: UP and UP and UP!! I mean: the "surdo" in the percussion cannot be depressive at all! Samba is Joy, is happiness, is going crazy singing and dancing in the middle of the crowd till morning comes. The "batida" of the "surdo" commands: Live the Life! Viva la Vida! ou Viva a Vida, in portuguese. Thank You!

TBH, I'm not a big fan of Coldplay. But I saw this live on TV and have been blown by the crazy energy of the crowd and shared happiness. You could pick any of their in this live, from In My Place, Fix You, etc.... And Will Champion has the right name! Great drummer :)

As much as I love and admire Chris, This was Will’s time to shine. He crusted that bell with that metal wrench 🔧 type thing. There’s no pickup or electronics in that, only external mics He clobbered that thing. See the dents from the force And didn’t miss one beat on the drum he was uptempo on the entire song. Taiko drum- esque stamina and focus Badass. 🙇🏻‍♂️🔧 🔔 🥁

People who say they are depressing have never listened to their music. The have a song for every human emotion.

This was my favourite album they made where they first ventured outside the sound that made them famous, the more depressive simple songs like yellow and the scientist and X&Y. Then they sold out and went totally conventional pop after this album. I recommend violet hill!

Great Reaction. And I really liked your interpretations. This song is actually written from the Perspective of king Luis XVI of France I think, well, the one who was taken down during the french revolution. It is a reflection of his life while facing his death. It is said he was not an evil King, studies say he really tried to do some good and had projects ongoing for the sake of France, but the French revolution had started before he was the King and the one before him really was a Tirant so, he was charged with all the responsibilities from past generations of Tyrants and sentenced to death. It is said He tried to die a dignified death by giving an inspirational speech no hate but just forgiveness and hope for his people in France, but the revolutionaries ordered to play the drums so loud no one could hear him. Some parts of the speech still got heard, you might find it in google. Still, he was also King so he probably also did some evil moves here and then. It is just a reflection on the life of a King who fell. The title of the song, they took it from the last painting of Frida Khalo, days before she died from a disease that only brought her pain for years, but the painting reflected hope and brightness so, the whole message for me is that life, well, it is what it is but, it is always precious.

Coldplay live in person is amazing. They make you part of the performance with the lighted bands given out that synch with the performances. Beach balls falling from the roof. Confetti guns. And Chris thanks the audience again and again for being there. It's truly exhilarating.

I guess He's left that life and found another so much better. About the percussionist: it reminds me an instrument very common in Brazil, cause the form, the sound and the moviment made to do this sound are the same. It's a "surdo" in portuguese. I guess the surdo commands the rhythm of the "samba". Here it's not so good. It seems there's something wrong. I say that because I'm Brazilian: I've heard it since I was a Child.
