I’m an old white woman who just recently stumbled on a few videos of HBCU marching bands and I love them. This is one of my favorites because these dancers are amazing. What an awesome display of female power and beauty. The sexist and racist comments came from white people who spend time watching things they don’t like and writing mean things about them - draw your own conclusions. To me the HBCU style is quintessentially American because it takes elements from Western European military and African musical traditions and combines them to make something that transcends the parts. While mainstream white marching bands have clung to the same old stiff slightly manic British Corp style the people they excluded took the standard marching band format as just a starting point from which they could innovate. I don’t know who lead the way or how it happened but the HBCU marching bands created a new language that was loose enough to allow on-going creativity but structured enough to be understandable. I am a grateful fan.

I'm going to be honest, I'm white and go to a school that used to be a more hbcu style school in the stands but core on the field. Now it's straight core and hate it. I just love the groove and the culture that surrounds the more hbcu style bands. I just hope that one day I can go to an hbcu for to experience it 👍

Let me tell u something. I've been on KZbin watching HBCU marching bands consistently for about two months now and I haven't seen anything better than this - P FUNK. I watched every year. This one is probably the oldest. But even 7 years ago they are killing it. The swag is crazy, the girls look and move amazing and the rhythm is the illest. Love this. I'm addicted. Make my funk with P Funk!!!
2023 and still jammin, since first post 6yrs ago, still haven’t heard or seen a better version of this piece. #NCAT

I love HBCU bands!! Just so much heart, soul, and a certain kind of rhythm in what they do. Stuff like this can't be taught or duplicated!! It amazes me how every section in the drumline has their own personality. I played in middle and high school (snare and quints), but it was a traditional band. Would have loved to march like this!

Reading the comments I noticed, White people are offended or called the dancers "dirty". While Black people automatically are proud and recognize the connection to our common ancestry through Africa, displayed in rhythm and dance. To all the ill informed folks who find this offensive, sorry but river dancing and clogging doesn't move us like this does.

big J78, in about 1995 I worked with a black woman and realized she was my neighbor. We became good friends and still talk to this day. I told her at one point that I wanted to be black. :D I loved the culture I was exposed to while spending time with her. So she put me on the "10 step program to becoming black." lol Oh my gosh! She took me to a step show at the college, tried to feed me collard greens which I just couldn't accept. ;D She is one of the greatest women I ever met. But yes, while I was watching this video all I could think was "I should have finished my 10 step program." Haha!

432 down votes? I seriously don’t know how anyone can dislike this. Drum cadences in the US came from military cadences, but it was black schools that brought more tribal beats, more rhythm, more soul, to drum cadences. The syncopated stick movements, head movements, the dancing....Anyone who likes any type of music has to appreciate this...and whites secretly wish they had soul and rhythm like this. I’m white, I would know :)
