Loved IT!!!! GREAT VID.I caught a crappie around 1987 in Lake NOCKAMIXON Pennsylvania and weighting in at 3lbs7ozs. I was 40 years old at the time. There were 2 friends I just recently met while at a job I got in a building supply warehouse. Found out couple weeks later, they were both really big fans of crappie fishing. When I told them about this Lake and how big these crappie were, they were all in. That's the day I caught that MONSTER!!! All together between the 3 of us we had 21 crappie, all over 12inches. i l

Omg I love you guys. I grew up on a lake in MN, full of crappies, sunfish, bass, redeyes (also called rock bass), perch, northern pike and muskies. But I was always focused on catching my mom crappies and sunnies because they were the best fried up! I've lived in Washington DC for 30 years now, no crappies here.

This reminds me of my PB back in 1989, before they were sell weighing scales, so all I could do was measure it and it was 22 inches long! I was thinking I had a world record but less then a minute later my brother-in-law caught a 23 incher! Busted my bubble right quick. We caught 33 Crappy that day and none were smaller than 14 inches. There were 3 of us fishing. I don't know if my brother-in-law's fish was any good but mine was DELICIOUS!

A great video Cole n Jay. You have some fine catches there and you deserved them fishing in that weather. It brings memories back of sitting on the banking waiting for a fish to bite, with half my brain saying pack up and go home and the other half telling me to stay and I will catch one and then they will start to bite. They were good days though.

You should go to Greer's Ferry Lake, during the early summer. My sis and her husband had a cabin on a cove. I spent my vacation there, one year. We would get in the boat and go across the cove, right at dark. Using a depth finder, we would anchor next to a sunken creek bed. The creek bank was 10 - 12 ft. deep and the bottom of the creek was around 25 ft. deep. We would straight-line minnows, just off of the creek bottom. We didn't catch a lot of fish but some were around 3 1/2 - 4 lbs..We wouldn't keep anything under a pound. Every now and then, one of us would hook up with a 5 lb.+ hybrid. This was 40 years ago.

Cold water crappie is the best. A trick I use that you might want to try is bobber jigging. Set a bobber above the jigs to whatever depth you want for a super slow presentation.

It's CrappiZilla!! Also not quite fair, as stress causes them to lose a few oz's quickly, so I bet if that was weighed when it first come in, think it would have made that 'PB'! Man that is good eating..and LOVE the idea of the cookoff with Granny judging..only thing that isn't fair about that is I Want In On That! LOL, would like to make Granny a couple of my fav ways to make it..but truthfully, you can just salt and pepper crappie, hit w/some lemon juice when it comes out, and it's still excellent! Get Jay some cold weather fishing gloves please ;)

What a great video! You guys are tougher than me, I hurt too bad in the cold weather. I'm so glad yall were blessed with a boat. I'm still inclined to kayak fishing. Congratulations Jay on the Boss crappie! You had some nice catches too Cole! I can't believe yall have a 10" limit down there, unreal. NC kept an 8" limit too long and now have a no limit creel in many places because of it. I still can't get over the prejudice of the Black Drum these days, it blows my mind. I know I'm Old School, but Any Drum is a choice fish, as far as I'm concerned. It's all in how you handle them. A slurry of ice in a brine and a knife through the gills as soon as they are caught makes all the difference. Yes, it does require a medium size cooler to be carried. Sorry for the book here. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
@oldmanfred86764 жыл бұрын
Scott We don’t have a size limit in Michigan, we can only catch 25 panfish in any combination except for Yellow Perch. Most Crappie here are stunted and we don’t catch very many big ones in my area.

@@oldmanfred8676 that would be reason enough for me to move South! You in the UP?
@oldmanfred86764 жыл бұрын
Scott, Between Detroit and Lansing. Lots of lakes in the area but you have to have permission to fish private lakes to catch big Crappies. Occasionally someone will hit bigun’s on public access lakes but doesn’t happen often.

Awesome catch. Next time when the the bite slows down try slow trolling behind the boat. Put the trolling motor on about 2 and cast out behind the boat and let the boat drag your baits , just criss cross the area you are fishing. I find that works well for me , Crappie tend to school and the school will move around. That might be why you will catch them for a while then they stop then they start biting again when the school comes back your way .
