I am from Greece , i know a bit of French , English obviously and i am also studying a lot to learn Russian . I always loved this language and the culture as well . Russia and Greece have a lot in common . I am also trying to learn Ukrainian . I found a website that can help with teaching other languages . However as much as i love Russian , it's a really hard language to master . Fortunately like i said there are lots of things in common with Greek , fro example letters like : Φ , Δ , Α , Β have the same meaning in both Russian and Greek . Mad respect for learning Russian . It's a really hard language to master :) . I can't wait to continue with my lessons as well and learn more . Thing is that when you know people from the country you want to learn the language of . It makes it easier i think . And from what i saw most people in Russia don't know English which makes me sad . In any case .I am wishing everyone all the best and to be safe and happy wherever they are located in the world :)

We do get stereotyped a lot, but what many people don't understand is that our country is massive, and very isolated. We also don't get government-sanctioned holidays, like most people in Europe and basically every other developed country. When I was staying with my sister and her family in Norway, we could literally just drive to Sweden and it took like an hour. So, people have the opportunity and need to speak other languages in Europe. It's the same with Aussies, because they're so isolated. But, most Americans can speak and/or understand at least a rudimentary level of Spanish. My Spanish is fairly advanced, because of the fact that I actually majored in Linguistics and Spanish in college. It's not that we're purposely ignorant--we're generally very warm and interested in other cultures. It's just that our country is so huge, populated, and multicultural, that we have a lot of stuff going on here.

It's not really "screw the world, only speak English". It's just that America is so large that a lot of us don't really have a need to learn other languages in our day to day lives. I for one can say that the paltry amount of French I've learned is because of my proximity to Canada and I've also learned some Finnish from the old-timers in my state. I just thought I'd shed some light on that particular subject for anyone who might be interested in it.
