Thank you so much for this channel!! My wife is from the Philippines, and will go camping with me, but has been forcing me to upgrade certain camping gear, like my original pop up tent I purchased back in 1995 after seeing it as a product placement in the Movie CONGO (which has a 37 inch diameter). She forced me to buy the Coleman 4 Person pop up tent. Your channel has really been both useful and informative. What I’ve come come to realize when I think back to the $20 pup tent I first started camping with in college, as long as I have camping gear that’s functional and works, I’ve never needed to purchase high end gear just to enjoy the great outdoors. But now after watching many of your videos (and I’m blown away when I think about how you’ve spent your own money to purchase all this gear), I should’ve probably been updating some of my camping gear which I’ve been putting off for fear of going bankrupt if I upgraded my gear all at once. But your reviews have really helped me identify pieces of camping gear I do wish to purchase or save up for in the future. And I really like the fact you give measurements of these items, which was helpful for me recently when purchasing a couple of modern camping cots which where long enough for the both of us, yet short enough to be able to fit inside some of my smaller tents I’ve owned for some time. And your attention to detail on items like camping lanterns, which I thought it either works or doesn’t. But you’ve managed to get me thinking about features I might not otherwise consider when making a future purchase. Keep up the great work!! Thanks to much of your hard work, my wife will now join me more often at some of my favorite State Parks, as well as other places. 😇

I really like this young lady's reviews. She is very thorough and methodical and it is obvious that she understands the requirements of tent ownership and usage. I personally think that these are what they are. A very inexpensive tents for light usage in fine weather. Having said that it is common for me to spray silicon water proofing spray on my inexpensive tents to ensure that the fabric remains water proof and as a standard response I also tend to seam seal all of the stitched fabric joins as i would on any cheap tent. Looking at the floor of this particular tent, I would suggest it would benefit from an external application of some sort of fabric sealer to improve the strength and water resistance of the fabric... But I do not yet have any solutions for that problem. It may even be possible to attach a water proof fabric similar to a ground sheet on the outside surface possibly using spray adhesive but to be honest carrying a seperate ground sheet within the package does not look like a major problem... And seperate ground sheet make sure water proof and cleaning as well as keeping the bottom of your tent clean and dirt free. As a concept I think I 0:03 prefer the side door access rather than crawling in from the end. It appears to allow step in and sit access rather than the crawling through a low entrance. Ask in all i like the concept of this tent. I like this review and I think this tent is more then adequate for fine weather short term camping for 1 person.

I think it's fair to mention that you said you have used it a couple of years. You have to perform maintenance on these things every year or two. That requires adding seam sealer around the seams to help keep it waterproof. And also spring something like silicone on the rainfly and around the body of the tent. I guess the factory stuff wears off. You can solve the door Problem by taking a cheap lightweight camping tarp and putting it under the brain fly and using guidelines to attach it to the ground and then using it with two poles to make an awning in front of course with two more guidelines. That keeps water from leaking anywhere around the door and you have a dry place outside as well. It works on Two And four person Coleman pop up tents. You can also hang a light if you use a small stick and a file clip or you could use a small rock and a piece of string with a slip knot through the top mesh. It won't hold anything large but I don't think you would be trying to use a huge kerosene lantern anyway. But it would hold a small battery powered lantern or even a candle as long as you let it hang down far enough not to damage the tent. Which in a two-man tent is almost halfway to the floor. I have a 4 man and a two man Coleman. And a two-man intense, and a one man intense which does not have a rainfly that you can easily use a hiking tarp. For the most part they handle high winds pretty good if they are staked down however, the doors are so dang tight that they will pop loose at the zipper when it starts jumping around from the tension of the Wind. I finally had that happen to me last night and I will probably be able to repair it. I got mine for camping off of a motorcycle. But you could go hiking with it. Like she said the tent Stakes are 6 lb. It's not that hard to use sticks as steaks so if you were trying to keep it even lighter you really don't need the steaks. Just remember that even the most expensive tents need maintenance from time to time. Also you can cut out a lot of the ground stuff by using a ground sheet.
@CampingGuidance2 жыл бұрын
@captain fragger Thank you so much for your comment and all the helpful tips! And yeah the factory stuff definitely wears off, so I gotta get some seam sealant for sure haha. I've never thought to make an awning, but that's a great idea! Though it'll add time to the set up process hahaha. But it's a cool idea! And yeah I agree the doors can be tight, I hope you manage to repair yours! 😊
@captainfragger62952 жыл бұрын
@@CampingGuidance well the setup will be the same time. It's just when you want to put the awning on you just slip your tarp under the rainfly push it to the back and I guess you could have guy lines attached to it and just had two pegs. It would definitely take a couple extra minutes but you don't have to do it every time only When You're Expecting bad weather. You could probably even use a mylar blanket.

@@CampingGuidance I made out pretty good after that storm. Someone had lost the extender leg on their seven-person tipping tent and they were going to throw the whole thing away. So I took it. Went to Lowe's and for $9 got a steel rod the right size and cut it down. And I drilled a couple holes in it and put a screw with a wing nut in it. And now I have a working large TP tent. People with a lot of time don't realize that their gear can be easily fixed. The wind also tore up a gazebo which I was also given and I believe I can fix it as well. I looked online for replacement parts and the one for the TP tent was not listed anywhere I looked. So I made my own.

@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
Hey Ryker! Thanks for the question. Hmm yeah they're not wrong, I found the zippers and zipper track on this tent to be tighter than usual. Hmm, I'd zip everything up first before staking it down, and I wouldn't stake it out too tightly. Without the stakes, it's actually quite manageable working the zippers.

My camping trip will be on Oct 1 - Oct 8 this year at Daniel Boone National Park in Kentucky. In preparation I have purchased water repellent/waterproof spray along with seam sealer for the rain with intent on applying them over the weekend, should the weather hold; I intend on applying multiple coats. Only time will tell how my tent holds up if I get rain when I go camping. I will not lie: I really wish all tents were waterproof, but sadly that seems to be reserved for the heavy duty canvas tents out there. I really enjoyed your video and how informative it was. It's more guided, and you don't need to be of a certain height to fold it down. These Coleman tents are definitely of the more budget variety, hence the fold up can take some getting used to it.
