All three of these cats found their sound and developed in Kansas City. Young "Bird" heard them at all the jam sessions. Then Bird got his turn later. That Kansas City sound.

Jimmy Heath (October 25, 1926 - January 19, 2020) 93 years and he knew everybody that was anybody in Jazz. No without his own problems - he became a heroin addict and spent years in prison. But the last time he was released in 1959, he remained clean for the rest of his life. Check out his playing with the WDR Big Band (Germany) in his later years. The guy was something else again!
